Default Home Depot yard workers

What do people pay those guys hanging out at home depot? Is it hourly or per day? My neighbor said he paid $120 per man per day, (and they were not even 8 hour days.) Is this the going rate?

that is about $15 an hour no not bad (maybe you could get them to $12 who knows, but quality might suffer especially if it is a project that is something they can do faster if they try like laying sod)

here are some hints.....when you roll up do not ask them "do you know how to lay brick" or "do you know how to lay tile".....they ALL know how to lay brick, tile, do electrical, erect steel and anything else you ask them if they can do....just ask them they will say si si si to everything you ask......instead ask them what they have experience doing and let them tell you

then as you work through them do not sort them out based on the answers just say ok thanks and make a note of who said they can do what you want and ask the others what they say they can do then choose the ones you believe

when you see them they will probably be in groups of 2 or 3 and one of them will do all the talking most likely he is the llavero (llaves being keys) so he is the 'key holder" which in the USA usually means he has the van and maybe a license and speaks the most English.....in Mexico it means hr has the keys to the work trucks and the gates and the equipment shed and also he does the least work (he is the shovel leaner on er)

so if you get a crew of 3 or 4 with one of them make sure you keep on them to work too instead of just standing around telling the others what to do

here is a hint if you need sod laid fast......buy ice and beer (miller lite or budweiser is what they like) and place the beer in the coolers at the far end of the job you need done and tell them they get the beer when the sod is laid to your satisfaction and get out of the way of the flying machetes

this guy has experience with this.

We have a mostly hispanic crew at work. All legal and e-verified. Out of the workforce there are 2 crews that work together after hours around town and for us. Basically if you don’t offer them a guaranteed $100/man minimum and $15/hour cash they will be working for someone else that day. 3 man minimum. The English speaker is key, and as insider said can also be a pain in the ass if not watched. Especially if they were a Chilango (City boy) and the rest of the crew comes from an agrarian background.

Also have to insure you have tools and supplies laid out before their arrival, plenty of water, and a few beers for the end of the work while you are going over stuff doesn’t hurt. If the work is shoveling mulch, have everyone working a mulch fork plus a spare.

Getting ready for a shit-storm about this response, but non-documented people that want to work for a living don't bother me anywhere as much as our citizens who can trace their Roots back to the 1840s, and prefer to milk the system for everything, including cell phones. Being a 4th generation welfare taker is way worse than being somebody who just wants a chance at a life for his family...

P.S. people hire those who stand on the curb, because many of our citizens who could.... won't leave their porch to.......work.

Sounds nice and lovey dovey and all but what you’re omitting is the fact that while the men are out working for cash and not paying taxes, their women are home in their section 8 apt with their 5 kids collecting the welfare.

which would be at least some indication they have some sort of legal status.

The bottom line for yard work is you have 3 choices. Neighborhood teens, folks that will work for cash, or hire a professional crew. A private individual does not have any access to be able to, or any legal obligation to verify anything.

So what youre saying is you prefer brown people who are here illegally and milking the system, but you dont like black people (your veiled racism wasnt very subtle) who were born here and belong here, milking the system. The very system that our govt has implemented over the last decades to keep a very large population of these same people dependant on it.
While I think things need to be changed to eliminate the conditions of both groups, the fact remains one exists through no act of yours, while the other perpetuates through your criminal actions.

Yet knowingly hiring illegals is still crime uner 8usc1324, and picking them up at HD is a pretty good indicator that you knew they were illegal.

Edit. So you would rather pay an illegal alien who is breaking the law instead of a local business owner trying to feed multiple families (his employees) or a teen trying to start his life, maybe saving for college or a car. Tells me all I need to know about you

the government subsidies activities they wish to encourage, when illegals can walk across the border without consequence, have a baby the next day thats a US citizen. Get free health care, free school, housing and food subsidies its the government that caused this issue not some guy that needs his lawn weeded

hell if anything hiring them is better than having them take to crime

That's like saying murder is way worse than theft, so I don't mind the theft. It's not zero sum. How about we stop hiring illegals AND stop paying able-bodied citizens to sit on their butts?

You're talking about our US citizens, not the un-docs. Un-docs don't qualify for Section 8, and often don't apply for anything because they'll get found out and deported. You have described your US citizens...
