Default Neighbor Killing Home Sale

Anyone ever have a neighbor kill a home sale. We are in the process of selling our old house after having a new house built. We accepted an offer last week. Buyer put a deposit down and decided to go check it out again. Our old next door neighbor essentially came out questioned why they were there. They explained who they were and she apparently said she didnít care who they were they needed to get out off the property or sheís calling the cops. She proceeded to tell them they werenít wanted there and she didnít want them as neighbors due to their ethnicity. Naturally they pulled their offer. Pisses me off that people in 2019 are still this ignorant. Also pisses me off because obviously itís potentially money out of my pocket.

If you can prove it you have a suit worth 3x's selling price from what I have been told.

Good luck.

If the buyer is willing to testify, sue the neighbor for loss of sale and being a racist with their comments. The lawsuit will deter them from opening their mouths again.

Or you can shoot her dog and burn her house down.

Your buyer and neighbor are both idiots. Neither can control a legal sale of a home or should let someone for what ever reason make that decision. If someone moves in next to me I don't like I just burn them out in THT style.

I would also tell my neighbor to F off and let them wait to see who has the next offer in.

Is the neighbor why your moving?

I am fairly certain if the statement was against their ethnicity, you are in lawsuit territory, should you choose to go that route. Especially if you are in an HOA.

Sounds like you have your hands full. I had psychotic neighbors where I last lived (you can look up some old threads for their interesting behavior) but I waited until they left town for the season to sell, knowing they would be an issue.

Did you try talking to your neighbor? Is it a race issue only, or something they're going to try to screw you on every buyer. I've never been through it but have heard nightmare stories of neighbors running everyone off to try to get the land cheap for themselves.

Buyer isn't an idiot. Why would they buy a house and move next to a racist who is going to likely make their life hell?

Sounds like Berks County?

And if it is "minority" buyers are the majority right now.

I would definitely file a law suite. It would keep your neighbors doors closed and you can sell to whoever you want.

Turn a blind eye to racism in that case? Allow it to perpetuate? How many more mortgage payments will you have to make solely due to the actions of these people? If they were just assholes, ok, but when they are threatening people due to their race....

I'd get a couple of the same race to go to the house and have a look, but this time have them recording it.

The law suit at this time should be easy!

Do not get the original couple involved until you have it on tape!

Did you return the deposit?

Something pretty similar happened in Tampa in 2017. Potential buyer sued racist neighbors and also the seller for not returning deposit.

Racist neighbor did threaten to break windows and burn house if buyers completed the sale. He was charged with a federal crime, plead guilty, and was sentenced to 8 months and a $30,000 restitution (the deposit value).

This is why we go to extremes to isolate/insulate from @#$# neighbors. I see them and wave, they wave back; they're nice folks. Occasionally we speak at the fence but only very briefly and superficially. They have no clue who we really are and we have no clue who they really are. There's vegetation and fencing to keep things sane. There's nearly no chance of any interaction and that's exactly the way we want it. We've been full tilt the other way and it rarely ends well. If we listed today, the neighbors probably wouldn't say anything to us; and they'd have to work at approaching anyone looking at the property.

What did she do that is illegal? I get making threats will cross the line, but if she's just being a racist asshole what's the offense?
