Wow I counted 8 opinions to sue or have an attorney draft a letter. It seem a lot of folks are sue happy these days. Give the deposit back and move on the next potential buyer. I wouldn't give my neighbor a second thought and let the realtor handle it.

Who knows, maybe you will get a higher offer and your racist neighbor will have done you a favor?
On a side note, how did you not know your neighbors don't like Hispanics? If you did know you probably could have given them a heads up. Something like, I know you don't really like Hispanics but these people seem ok and have made the high offer on the house. I am planning on accepting it unless a better offer falls in my lap real soon. I hope you understand.
Prior to the woman telling my wife that “there are Hispanics looking at the house” they never really gave off the impression they would have any issues with non-white neighbors. Granted we have only lived there a few years and they are a good 20 years older than my wife and I so outside of small chit chat over the fence when we both had our dogs out we really didn’t otherwise hang out or spend time with them. The woman would occasionally message my wife when there was something going on in the neighborhood, or in this case to let her know Hispanics were looking at the house.

I should move in. I look as caucasian as you can, but technically I am 1/4 hispanic. My grandfather was from Mexico City.

Adds new meaning to neighborhood watch ~ with judgmental opinions tossed in via messages

Full disclosure - I'm an old white guy who gives everyone a fair chance regardless of who you are

I have lived & worked all over the country - some of my worst neighbors were white & some of my best neighbors were white

Some of my neighbors were rednecks and great people - some not so much

Others were a broad mix of various ethnic backgrounds and I had no issues with any of them

Can't judge anyone in my opinion based on their background

To further your neighbor's possible acceptance of a potential new next door neighbor she would have been fine with Ted Bundy probably

Because everyone is such a good judge of character

Take the racism out of it and, yes. But with the racist aspect, I'm not looking the other way and helping to perpetuate racist behavior. Fine with me if I get $0 as long as Fair Housing is made aware of the situation, and it is appropriately handled by them.

I drive through a semi rural area several times a week. A few weeks ago a house went up for sale and a For Sale sign went up. A couple of days later a neighbor with some acreage put up a 4'x8' sign that said "pig farm coming soon."

A house across the lake from me went on the market. Total cost to build was $1.5M mil. Funky industrial look. Over 6k sf. 2 lots. It finally sold at $850k to the owner of some Mexican restaurants.

My buddy that lives nearby said it was funny driving by and seeing a white crew landscaping an Hispanic's yard.

I mean this with all due respect & do see the irony so to speak

Your post is a perfect example of perpetuating "fill in the blanks"

Just trying to point out what keeps it alive and kicking unfortunately

I know you meant no harm with this - just seemed like a good moment time to perhaps point out to others that may not understand

Regards

What if a couple just made that story up because they are stupid and wanted what to them was a good reason to back out without looking like douche bags ..

Anything is possible. I’m inclined to buy their story since the neighbor has previously messaged my wife to tell her Hispanics were looking at the house. I don’t see the need to mention that If they didn’t take issue with it

When my house was for sale my next door neighbor had a old motorhome and was covered with a blue tarp and had 2 couples who were scheduled for a viewing just keep driving when they saw the motorhome.

I'm always amazed at how many sellers literally stop working on the property once it's under contract....literally the most critical time to keep the deal going.
great point here. I do the same thing.

Rent the house out to a nice group of guys to use as a club house....after a few months the neighbor will welcome most anyone you choose to sell to.
