Default New in Box Reels for Sale?

Can somebody explain to me why there are so many NEW IN BOX reels for sale under the Private Sellers Fishing gear section?

Are these folks dealers who are trying to unload old inventory, or what?

Otto's tackle world was selling some of their reels at a significant discount to US prices. Couple that with a favorable exchange rate versus Australian currency and some are probably buying and re-selling to make a few bucks. They just recently quit shipping to the US. Tiagra 50 wides were about $150 less than retail including shipping, The Talica 50II was over $350 less than US retail by memory. The Talica 25II was pretty close to the same as US retail. Not sure on the others reels as these were the only ones I looked at.

LIke most fisherman, we are impulse buyers and we get deals online then we think about it then either sell or return after the wife finds out. pretty easy concept to understand.

Yeah, I bought a bunch of 2spd 50vsw (or whatever their numbers are) internationals when Academy was selling off their offshore stuff. $350 a piece! You either use them for yourself, pass on the good deal to your buds or try to make a few bucks reselling them.

Sometimes, it's old inventory. I bought a bunch of older new in box Daiwa Sealines when I first started tackling up. Great reels, still have them.

bought on black Friday or received for Christmas and people either sold their boats or their motors didn't survive the winter. Or caught a good deal and "might need that in the future" but not really. lol. I buy a lot of thing that stay in the box until I need it.

I've found some "too good o pass up" deals on reels in the past and selling the extra one or two I buy at a slight margin helps fund the dream!

I have 10 reels in boxes, got great deals on them when the models changed. Waiting for my regular reels to die or my kids will spilt them when I die.
