I listened to folks discussing it relative to a bartender continuing serving someone already hammered. Good try for the antis, but total BS to me.

I spilled hot coffee on my lap, I'm suing the person that served me, the cup maker because it wasn't insulated enough for me to handle, the maker of the top because it popped off too easily and spilled on me, the company that roasted the beans, the company that bought and distributed the beans, the importer of the beans the guy that picked the beans, the farmer that grew them and god for growing them.

I think I covered everyone.

How many people are killed in car accidents each year? Hope GM, Ford, etc have good insurance.

Can we sue the gov't for building the roads people die on?

I believe this is the ad they took issue with.

I believe the argument is that this ad is targeted towards an audience that could reasonably be expected to include people with mental issues such as the Sandy Hook shooter. Much like the Joe Camel ads were targeted at teenagers.

Wait a minute I have seen people have a good time drinking on a beach in beer and liquor drink commercials. So, if I drowned or a family members does while swimming hammered, someone can sue..Ok got it !!!!

Seems to me the biggest argument with that is that women like AR's too. Outside that, BFD. It hardly encourages anybody... men, women, or any of the other 642 sexes to kill anybody with one.

That should be easy since it has been done already.

As someone else already pointed out. It wasn’t his gun! It was belonged to his mother and he killed her to gain access to it!
I hope this case ends up like the CO case where the plaintiffs end up having to pay Remington’s legal fees!

The company that made your pants should have assumed you would spill hot coffee in your lap and built in protection.

Can I use the same argument to sue Hollywood, all of the networks and most cable outfits?

This is about trying to place blame on a third party entity with deep pockets for economic gain. It never surprises me how shameless some lawyers can be.

Don't see why not. If they succeed I imagine the various movie studios and actors could also be held liable. Imagine Robert Deniro, Sean Penn, Sylvester Stallone, Quentin Tarantino etc. being held accountable for "glorifying" guns and violence.

While the manufacturer etc. are protected for the manufacture and sale by federal law, what I am reading says the complaint alleges a violation of a state law regarding advertising content. As a legal theory this puts them outside the protection of the federal law. They are not claiming that there was anything illegal about the manufacture, distribution, or retail sale of the rifle, but rather that the advertising inspired the shooter to use the rifle to somehow prove his significance to the world.

The largest glorification of guns has ironically came from hollywood. Let the lawsuits begin in California.

I am going to sue Salt life!! Because of them I have to go to the sandbar, crank terrible music (I don’t even like it) and get hammered in a sausage fest. Not my idea of a good time but that is why the advertising tells me I have to do to become SALT LIFE!
