It doesn't bother me so much as it's not work and I save/close anything frequently so nothing is lost. I'm more aggravated with the way I have to fight to keep Microsoft Office going. Seems like every few weeks they make the default word to the newest version and I have to go through the office set up once again. And don't get me started on Edge. I've all but quit using it. I haven't experienced hardly any issues with apple but maybe I would if I used them more.
Manual is the default setting. When you trigger Windows update via control panel or scheduled task the service then switches on. Set to disable and it will be disabled. 10+ years experience with my own IT service business.

And you'll be happy to know that MS is killing off Edge. Partnering with Google of all people to release a new approach to the browser. No timeline listed by either yet.

FYI to the OP, and others who don't like having little control in Win10 Home edition...Microsoft is adding a feature to have more control of the updates in the next Win10 release, version 1903.

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019...s-for-35-days/

The current release is 1809. You can well which you're on by typing WINVER in Search/Run.

I know you are joking but when my last laptop's hard drive died, I took it outside and put eight 9mm rounds thru it (I live in the sticks with no neighbors). I must say that it felt dang good!!! Highly recommend it for stress release!
