Default Man jumps on pelican in Key West.

A Maryland man is under fire on Facebook after posting a video that shows him jumping on top of a pelican and holding the bird in his hands while he smiles widely and a friend off camera laughs at the stunt. On his Facebook page, Hunter Hardesty, of Davidsonville, Maryland, offers no apologies — or explanations — for why he attacked the pelican, which he lured to the dock with what appears to be a small fish. He even seems to enjoy the attention.
The bird tried to fight back, even nipping him in the face, the video shows. He commented on the thread filled with critics and several people who found the video amusing: “Next time ima eat him for dinner!! Wonder what they taste like.”

I know our Sheriff cares and that is probably not good for the gent that played rodeo with a bird.

Keep in mind the feds, FWC, local sheriff and police here don’t take those that F w/ our resources for granted

They threw a mother in jail for harvesting conch infront of their rental home a few years back

put dozens in jail for illegally harvesting lobsters

Will take you to jail for fishery violations

Come to Monroe county for vacation and leave with record if you act like the fool who did this, funny his own video will take him down.

Overall, this will not be forgotten about here (Key West) it happened in a very public place and has gotten a ton of attention

Regarding the chicken reference, bless your heart son....

In one way I agree, but being a douchebag overrides everything. Lock the DB up.

Anyone recall the Shark dragging video? Buddy literally just took a plea deal last week. FWC, while slow to react, usually has something to say about matter like this.

Hunter Hardesty: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

  • Updated Mar 10, 2019 at 2:20pm
YouTube Hunter Hardesty
Hunter Hardesty is the Maryland man who made a splash — literally — in a video that seems to show him tangling with a federally protected pelican. Hardesty posted the video to his Facebook account on March 7 with the caption, “Yeah, they bite hard.” Since then, social media has been buzzing with anger over Hardesty’s treatment of the bird. Here’s what you need to know:

1. Hardesty Dived Into the Water & Dunked the Pelican — but the Bird Bit Back

Hardesty posted his pelican video from Key West, Florida. The clip shows Hardesty, wearing a t-shirt and shorts, leaning over the edgoe of a pier with what seems to be a small fish in his hand. The pelican swims over to take a look, and that’s when Hardesty jumps into the water on top of the bird. Both Hardesty and the pelican go under water for a moment. When they come back up, Hardesty is holding the bird in two hands, and you can hear men laughing gleefully off-camera.A woman’s voice orders Hardesty to get out of the water right away, or else, she says, she’ll call security. At that moment, the pelican whips its head around and bites Hardesty, who gets startled and lets the bird go.Officer Bobby Dube, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, told the Baltimore Sun that the commission is looking into whether Hardesty will face any charges. He said the bird in the video is a brown pelican, a species which is protected under the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act and Florida state law, which forbid “molesting” the animals.

2. Hardesty Has Been Arrested for Drug Possession Multiple Times

In 2014, police in Anne Arundel county arrested Hardesty and three other individuals after a raid on a hotel room in Annapolis, Maryland. Hardesty was 26 years old at the time.Officers had first been alerted to the group when they checked a vehicle at the Harbour Center south of Annapolis and discovered drug paraphernalia and money. They also found a key card for a hotel room. Officers went to the hotel and said they smelled marijuana coming from the room, so they obtained a warrant and searched the room, finding 8.2 grams of heroin, 14 grams of marijuana and 19 tablets of oxycodone hydrochloride. Hardesty and three others were arrested after that search.Separately, Hardesty was arrested and charged with possession of drugs when he was 19, in 2011. Police said that after his initial arrest, he made bail and then remained “at large” as police searched for him.

3. Hardesty Has Previously Been Arrested for Assault & Robbery

In 2016, Anne Arundel police charged Hardesty with beating and robbing a man outside of a bar. Police also charged a second man, Eugene George Morris, in the same crime. The victim in the case told police that Hardesty and Morris attacked him outside of a bar called Moni’s Place; he said that they stole his wallet. Police were called to the scene at a little after 1w1PM. When they searched the area, they found Hardesty and Morris hiding behind a dumpster. The alleged victim identified them as his attackers, and they were charged with robbery, second degree assault, and theft. Hardesty was also charged with resisting arrest.

4. Hardesty Was Charged With ‘Possession with Intent to Distribute’ Oxycodone

Hunter Hardesty has a number of drug arrests on his record. In 2011, he was charged with “possession with intent to distribute” of Oxycodone. He was also charged with possession of marijuana and possesion of drug paraphernalia. The charges came after police in Anne Arundel county seized 300 Oxycodone pills, 6.6 grams of marijuana, 7.6 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms, and various types of CDS drug paraphernalia with a total estimated street value of $9,398.00. Also seized was $18,826 in cash, a 1995 Chevy Impala, a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle, and 6 rifles.

5. Hardesty Says He Works for an Electrical Company in Davidson, Maryland

Hardesty’s Facebook page lists his employer as JW Frew Electric. JW Frew Electric describes itself as “a family-owned Maryland Electrical Contractor currently operating from Gaithersburg Maryland. JW Frew was formed in 2001 and maintains a continuing and conscience effort to provide a product which meets or exceeds the client expectations. JW Frew Electric is a Union Shop and with its skilled Labor and elevated expectations, it continues to flourish since its inception.”

Evidently you don't, you probably don't care for the North American Model of wildlife conservation, the Pittman robertson act, the dingell-johnson act, or any other movement that supports or improves our natural resources and our access to them. Probably think poaching is ok as well.

I spoke with the regional FWC Captain yesterday and they are looking into this in collaboration with Sheriff Ramsey.

Neither one of them have patience for jackwagons like this. This guys seems like a Mark the Shark wannabe.

At least the pelican appeared to have got one in on the DB while being molestedly assaulted like that. Good for it. Hopefully it left a mark.

The only time I ever did anything remotely close was when I was taking a walk with my wife and very young niece and nephew in a park. The kids were around 5 and 6 years old and little did we know the danger of approaching a pair of Canada geese and their 8 chicks. We weren't even that close actually and on the path anyway but the next thing I know either the male or female was airborne about 4ft off the ground making a straight line for my little niece. My wife pulls her away but the bird was super aggressive and kept coming at them. The wife is screaming lol and I just grabbed the goose by the neck and bear-hugged it to stop it from attacking. My wife and the two little ones ran to the parking lot and I held the bird for a few seconds until I had a clear shot to let it go and scram outta there. I wasn't planning on handling the thing but really didn't have a choice. That bird probably weighed more than my little niece at the time. We made it outta there safely lol.

These things can be vicious and very protective of their chicks when the feel threatened by you being too close to them.
