Default Would you provide 2 years tax returns....

The RV resort (Seasons in the Sun) my parents used to stay at for 3-4 months every winter in scenic Mims, FL now requires 'guests' (customers, not guests of customers) who plan to stay more than one month to provide the two previous years tax returns. Wtf? I say no way. Total invasion of privacy. Last year my parents bought a small house in Willow Lake RV Resort/Golf club in Mims but they have many friends who are/were still staying at Seasons in the Sun. But the two years tax returns thing has caused a huge uproar. Understandably.

What say the wise men of THT?

Thanks.`

Total nonsense. Tell them to pound sand. If they still insist give them doctored up copies with SS# redacted.

Absolutely NOT.
That's like a Holiday Inn requiring your tax return.

When you say "guest" is that guest of the RV park or guest of your parents?

Why are they asking for the returns? Is there an issue with people using the location as a residence, to skirt income tax laws in their home state?

Customer of the RV park. Not guest of customer.

I am curious why

how are they receiving and storing? there may be a whole host of privacy / security concerns separate from the concern of invasion of privacy

like another poster suggested, i dont think one can get in much trouble for doctoring up a fake return to play their game

I own RV / Camping Resorts, with many guests staying the season (5 months) and do not require this.

scenic Mims

Did they provide any rational? I''d be surprised if anyone in Mims even filed a tax return, let alone 2 years in a row. There is a killer BBQ joint there on US1 though...

Wonder what sort of "secure filing system" Seasons in the Sun has. Maybe we should all call them and find out

They are probably like everyone else and are lucky if half the people stay caught up on rental. Probably heard every excuse in the book, and some people said "I have to pay a bunch of tax so I can't make rent again". Probably if you can just give them some kind of hard assurance that paying rent won't be a problem.

Not only no but No F'ing way, what the hell does it tell them that previous exp doesn't? What will they be looking for to in/exclude people?

Expose them on social media and the press.

You know a tax return has little to do with ability to pay rent

It tells you how much someone made in the past, not useful in of itself

This might be it. Or they want to know if people are planning to just live at the park permanently.

How would a tax return show what someone is planning to do?

Give them fake ones, showing insanely high income and a fake SS #.
