Default Question for anyone who is waiting for their tax refund

I filed pretty early, around Jan. 25th I think. I've been anxiously waiting for my humble-sized tax refund, and I've been checking the "Where's My Refund" IRS website daily.

It shows a little bar that goes from "Received" to "Approved" to "Sent"

Mine has been sitting at "Received" since a few days after I filed. I.e. the first bar in the chart was filled in. Today I logged in and the chart is totally gone, and it says:

"Refund Status Results: Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available"

I tend to be a worrier. Part of me wonders if this is just what you typically see right before your refund is approved and sent. Another part wonders if this is because of some hang-up with my tax return. I just have a normal W2 and I claim no dependents this year, but I did claim head of household because I am the custodial parent of my son (it is just this year that my ex gets to claim him as a dependent). Other than that northing too out of the ordinary on my return.

You guys ever run into this? Should I prepare myself for a direct deposit, or a long delay?

Send me you SS# and the bank account number where it is supposed to be direct deposited. I will also need your full name and date of birth. I will research this and let you know ASAP when your money will be there.

I sent my Federal return through the free F1040 website on 02/03/2019. I had the return deposited in my checking account on 02/08/2019. It was FAST.

You are getting a refund and whining about it?

I filed at the end of March last year and am still waiting. It was the first time I asked for a refund in probably 20 years. I usually just apply it toward the next years.

As a side note with regards to the state return, I had mailed in the paper return on 02/03/2019 and much to my shock and awe-on the happy side of things, the refund was in my checking account yesterday.

Last year, I told the IRS to apply my refund to my April 2018 estimated tax payment. They sent me a refund check instead. Took a while to get that straightened out..

I can't really comment on your exact situation, as I don't know if Head of Household is right or wrong for your situation.

Had an issue with my return one year. I can't recall if it was rejected immediately, or if it took a little bit. I think it took a bit and I had a message like you got. I had to call in to the IRS to get it sorted. In my case, someone had filed using my SSN. That took a bit to sort out. I think we didn't receive a refund until about October that year. When the check finally arrived, it was for more than my refund should have been. They included interest during the delay. The next year, however, I got a 1099-INT from the IRS on the interest they paid. Since then, I get a PIN mailed to me each year that I need to include when filing. Otherwise, it gets rejected.

Yarcraft, had the same thing happen to me one year. I just cashed it and sent the same amount right back.
