Never had an interest in fighting till someone else threw the first punch. Something about the sting of being punched in the nose or the sight of my own blood to get me fired up.

I know exactly what you are saying and I would do everything reasonable to avoid a fight but once I knew I tried to avoid it and it was imminent, I get a surge of righteousness and that amps me up. I would prefer not to fight either, however, at some point it's obvious, at least to me, that the talking is over and it's go time.

Sucker punch, the first punch thrown in a fight as recounted by the loser.

It is because you are fighting someone that doesnt think they are fighting. If you are defending yourself against someone attacking you go ahead and throw the punch. If you are the aggressor throwing the first punch, you are an asshole.

I spent 48 hours in jail this year. Little advice. No matter what the issue is if your not protecting yourself and get that first punch in, your going to jail.
Girl friends son come down, he for some reason didn't like me . We were at my house. Smarted off at me. Made a comment told him he didn't have to be here. Told me he would come see his mom at my house any time he wanted.. Laid him out. Got out of jail he was gone naturally not at the house. Got home told the GF to pack that day, got rid of her.
Problem solved.
God put 20 million of those beautiful things on this earth for us to enjoy. Don't worry with one of them.

This is a great example of not throwing the first punch. If you watch it check out how ready the guy in green is without looking like he was going to fight. Then he ducked in a millisecond.

The title of this thread should be "stay cool and avoid situations that result in you being punched ".

This is why the Clearwater parking lot shooter should be free.

He should be locked up regardless of the dog being on the leash or not. He killed someone. Anyone becoming violent for someone verbalizing something has issues. He could have said mind your own business and kept doing whatever he was doing. And I’ll add it doesn’t matter if it was a pit bull, Rottweiler, Doberman or chihuahua with rabies. Someone died senselessly because of a comment.

I wasn't there so I can't say whether the punch was justified or not.

Pits are the worse followed by their owners. Its only the threat of having to pay for vet bills or civil lawsuits that even begin to get them to acknowledg their responsibility.
That took longer than I thought!

Are you really that clueless? The last "fight" I was in was in high school, and I was sucker punched. No build up, no trash talking, just me walking down a hallway and then hitting the floor. Dude was a solid foot taller and 100 pounds of muscle compared to me, if I had seen him and knew he wanted a piece of me I would have ran. I wouldn't have known he wanted a piece, he thought I was someone else who was talking trash behind his back. If that isn't a sucker punch I guess I'm am idiot for not thinking the whole world is out to beat me ass.

It's also a great example of why you should be careful to avoid a fight at all costs. That guy didn't look imposing at all, but he was a very skilled fighter. Growing up I was always wiry and tough. I never had any training though. If I matched up with other people with no training, I made a good account of myself. If I matched up against people with training, even when they gave up a good bit of size and weight, they kicked my ass.

I love brutal honesty. Age and injury have taken a toll on me. I am not tough. I am old and tired, and it's be pretty easy to beat my ass. I want NOTHING to do with a fight and will avoid one at almost all costs. Even if it means running. Or in my case bicycling away as fast as I can.

Guy was obviously a wrestler. My rule was always to never let a wrestler get a hold of me!

That's not what I'm talking about, think of some alcohol fueled douche bag getting in your face, unprovoked, just looking for trouble. And, as shown in that video, the black dude was getting ready to strike, Alexander Graham Bell couldn't have telegraphed it better; at this point I would prefer to land the first blow.

For those wanting to wait for them to strike first, search knockout punch on youtube.

BTW, I'm 61 years old and haven't had a fight all week.

Sorry I'm going a bit off subject here. That's actually all brazilian jiu jitsu. He went from a rear choke, then transitioned to am armbar and when the guys bystander pulled him out of that he got a leg lock. At the end he could have leaned back and quickly snapped that leg.
