Several others that don't sound like the shit they play on country radio today.
"He stopped loving her today"...you're gonna have to explain "the possum" to newbies. GREATEST duo of country..Tammy and the possum.

I find its more about select songs by select artists. Not many that I can say I like most of what they put out. Pop in a few titles to Spotify that i like and let it find similar stuff and filter through it.

found a couple new guys that I can tolerate their music, although I would hazard a guess many fall under that 'bro music' thing:
Luke combs is better than most
Chris Janson
Casey Donahew
Justin Moore
Brantley Gilbert - so so, most sound the same
Frankie Ballard - couple songs

Alan Jackson is the last real country on the radio in my opinion, but I'm partial, I grew up with him in same small town.

People said the same thing when I was in High School listening to Waylon, Don Williams, and those guys. They will be saying the same thing 30 or 40 years from now talking about how great some of these modern country performers were. Part of the essence of country music I think. Just saying.

Saw George Jones in Macon GA in 1985 or 86. He was a great performer.

I don't know diddly about country music but how can you go wrong with "Drunk on a Plane" or "Buy me a Boat"?

"Country" is really broad, and I don't care for the pop stuff at all. I asked the receptionist at the doctor's office to turn off that dumbass Blake Shelton redneck song.

But the Nashville songwriters were/are incredible.

Townes Van Zandt
Guy Clark
Emmylou
John Prine
Lyle Lovett
Willie

Agreeing with Stapleton, Church, Childers, Prine, Combs, Price, Wall

Jason Aldean sitting in the middle.

Adding John Moreland, Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires.

If you're talking today's country, its pretty much only Texas Country for me....the rest is trash.

Robert Earl Keen, Joe Ely, Roger Creager, Cody Johnson, Aaron Watson, Cody Jinks, Corry Morrow, Jason Bolland, Jack Ingram, Whiskey Meyers, Lyle Lovett etc etc etc.

Jamie Johnson and Chris Stapleton deserve to be mentioned...both are incredible.

As involved as I am with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, I **might** see 3 concerts this year. And if you're wondering, yes, I already have my George straight, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen tickets

Have a look...lol

I'm with you except for Aldean. He's right there alongside Luke Bryan and FGL in my book. Plus he doesn't have a neck so that's kinda weird.

Went to local pubs where some of the most awesome talent ever played week after week hoping to be "discovered." But I'm sad to say it was just a matter of being at the right place at the right time, know the right person at the right time with the right look discovered by the right person. The talent honestly is a dime a dozen. If the powers choose to make you great, you will be great. You guys would not believe the folks with talent that never get "discovered."
One of the many great things about living in Nashville . . . hard to go ANYWHERE and find no talent on stage. You're 100% on. Luck of the draw for most, if not all. One of our favorite spots is The Listening Room. It's gotten more tourists now, but great place where songwriters play the stuff they're writing for "the talent."

I like some of the edgier stuff so 112 posts and no one has mentioned one of my favorites. Say what you want but if Charlie Daniels and George Jones appear in your video you're legitimized.

I've also seen Jamie Johnson live and he's legit.

Hank III, rough, raw and sounds just like his granddaddy in certain songs. He has a distinct voice and manages to mix bluegrass, old school country and rock into his own sound.

The only legit country music artists are all dead.

Everything else sucks. Period.

Edit: Willie gets a pass.
