Default Dash Cam Installed.... Again

I bought a Garmin 55 a few weeks ago, dam thing lasted all of one day before it died. I sent it back and bought a TaoTronics 2K, so far this little camera is excellent. Install and setup were a breeze. The give you about 10ft of wiring so its pretty simple to have a clean install. They also supply you with a 12volt plug with 2 USB back. Video quailty is excellent, I have a 32GB card installed. I like this one better than the Garmin Lol

Since it basically sits behind the rearview mirror I don't see it while driving

Whatís the reason for having a camera while driving? Is this for a scenic road trip?

Two reasons for me, One is to possibly cover my ass if I get into an accident were the video footage could be used. Second is to capture video of idiot drivers Lol. Some of the crap I see is mind boggling. Most of the time it has to do with either school buses or city buses

So, does it run continuously while you drive? Doesn't that fill up a memory card pretty quick? What do you do, erase it every day and start over? Just asking because I have wondered about people that have them.

It starts recording as soon as it gets power. It has a few different settings. Mine is set to record in one big loop, basically it records until it runs out of room and just overwrites files I have a 32GB card in mine, I haven't figured out the total time the card holds but I believe its about 4 hours. I'll check it in a day or two

dash cams are great fun, have had a blackvue unit for years, one helped the local PD catch a purse snatcher as the camera stays on for a while while the car is parked and the theif hid the purse under my truck a few minutes after parking, the guy pretty much smiled at the camera for a HD mug shot.

Im on the road quit a bit traveling long distances. Itís a must have for road trips with the aggressive tractor trailer drivers out there today. So youíre cruising at 78 and come up on two tractors in the right lane. The second truck will hit that left lane at the last second to force you to brake hard instead of letting you pass just to slow you up for miles and miles. This happens again and again time after time. Personally I canít wait for Driverless tractor trailers to replace these over the road drivers.

I have always wondered how these would hold up in the southern summer heat?

Just me thinking out loud. A DVD is 4.7GB and will hold a 2 hour movie. That puts you at about 16 hours on a 32GB

One of the problems with the Garmin is them dying in the summer heat

Compression is different, the camera also has 4-5 different resolutions you can set

send the video to the trucking company HQ and the driver will receive some less than favorable feedback from management

I have an Autovox Pro installed in my F250. Two years so far here in AZ, no issues. 64 gig SD, captures sound and 1080p video. Been great little unit. Seems to lose date/time sync occasionally and you simply have to connect the app and it re-syncs to your phone. Mine set to loop as well, so the oldest gets written over by the newest automatically. Once in awhile, I'll use the app to reformat the SD card and start fresh.

I have it as said above, to catch stupid people doing stupid things. Want to be able to prove what happened in case somebody runs a light, cuts me off, whatever. Small investment for a little added security.

there you have it. The bad ones make you tube with trucking company logo attached. Insurance companies love these videos

the bad cop on video, the bad teacher, the bad ups driver, keeping them honest through video.

Hmmmm....OK...I guess.... rarely have I had much that needs that kind of effort on my part and I drive at least 150 miles a day and now in an unmarked car but hey, if it makes you feel better.. usually car drivers are the worst is my experience.

Depends on the company. I was working on my truck a few weeks back and heard glass bottles being dumped on the ground. Moved my car up to record the drivers dumping all their garbage on the cul-de-sac which is already filled with garbage. Took it straight to their HQ down the street and got the run around on who to talk to about it. In the end, got told to go pound salt. Now every time I see one of their drivers stopped over there, I pull around and record them. Next video doesn't go to HQ. It goes to the PD.
Great part was, the guy was a deer in headlights when he saw I was recording him. And tried to act like it was OK to do that. Then 5 minutes later, goes into the bushes and pulls a corona box out telling me he took his garbage back.

I drive a Lincoln Navigator and you wouldn't believe how many cars and trucks cut me off. It's like they don't see me. I bought one of those cameras advertised on TV, lasted 3 months. Then I bought another type from TV, the one that is a mirror. Lasted 2 months. I'm looking for something a little more reliable. I'm not worried about it being used against me, if something happens that I did, I'll just eat the memory card.
