I'm standing with my BS assessment, but now I have to ask if this happened in the crack house he bought.

I bought a crackhouse in Detroit yesterday

The incoming water to the tank is colder than the dew point of the air around the tank..Tank sweats and drips condensate on to the floor. Could also indicate too much humidity in the building depending on other factors..

...actually us Yankees like the smell of hot poop....

Now having said that, she looks like "hot ass"
I'm a lot closer to 100% impossible unless someone ran the bowl off of the bathroom sink hot water tap. and even then how did it melt rubber?

5 pages, and I'm committed, have to find out the results.

I've heard of you put a wooden spoon across the top of the toilet tank it won't boil over anymore.

Default hot water

do you have hot water baseboard heat? If you do, is one of the pipes to the baseboards running near the water line to the toilet and heating that pipe too?

I had a customer once who got a new refer with an ice maker and water dispenser. They installed the self piercing saddle valve in a heating line. Used it for the summer until the heating season... they could not figure what the hell was wrong with the refer and the hot water dispenser...

I think the flapper was probably old and deformed from minerals and age and he just assumed the hot water deformed it.

Is there a shower in the apartment that has a shutoff valve on the showerhead? If someone shut off the flow with the valve at the showerhead and left the main shower valve on the hot water can crossflow at the main valve.

Couple that with a toilet that sounds like it was passing water from a rotted flapper would purge the cold water in the toilet feed line.

I call B.S.. The water heater doesn't make water hot enough to melt rubber, you should have a cold water only line running into your toilet AND, how small is her ass if it actually reached the water in the toilet?

maybe someone forgot to put the seat back down for her.

I never understood why gals cannot look before dropping their drawers and sitting

ex wife back when the boys were small figured out it was best for even her to lift the seat back up after using the toilet so the boys would not pee on the seat.
Takes a awhile to train them to lift the seat every time if you can get it thru their hard heads

maybe she just thought it was hot water and it was just cold water.

I worked in a plant the made magnesium and alloys .
I tossed a cup of ice water onto the back of a fellow worker one day out on the floor next to a alloy mixing pot, you should have seen him strip that fire retardant jacket off real quick thinking it was molten mag that hit him.
ah the good old days

The melted rubber is actually from flushing chemicals used to manufacture meth. The hot water in the toilet is from a failed mixing valve in the shower.

dumping and flushing chemicals does not get to the flush flapper.
and water from water heater does not get hot enough to burn an ass unless someone or something else has jacked the stat plus some what for that hat water to get to the crapper tank

....all wrong.....tank cleaners bad.....electric water heaters can heat to 200F before eco activation upon element failure...hot can and does sometimes reach the potty..

I have had to address all these issues ,many times in upstate NY. I'm sure plumbing is equivalent all over...

There was a degree of overstatement in the op explanation...once one figures that out the story falls into place.

How many people dump chemicals from making meth into the tank instead of the bowl to flush it?
that is the post I was responding to.

So you have run into someone getting a burnt butt from hot toilet water many times up there In NY?

If this is an electric water heater, the limit switch will trip at 180 degrees.

The OP's story brings back memories of a similar incident that happened to my sister-in-law many years ago. My brother-n-law called me about 1am on New Years day in Indiana asking me to come over to his house to help him. His wife had used the bathroom and when she flushed the toilet she said it made weird noises and the water in the bowl was hot. I went over there immediately and we found that the thermostat on the water heater had failed closed and the pressure relief valve did not operate to relieve the pressure. So essentially the water heater was a bomb ready to go off. We managed to put a garden hose on the drain on the water heater and ran it outside to relieve the pressure. I don't remember if he got a new water heater or had a plumber repair it. I can still picture the steamy water spraying into the below 0 air. What a sight!
