Didn’t click at first cause I thought this would be about big Ben beating the Jags lol.

But that was AWESOME, saw the whole race, congrats. Loved the post race interview!

Buddy, my eyes well up every time I watch the replay. You want to talk about nervous, you should have seen me at the track during those last 4 laps!!

Absolutely flat out one of the most enjoyable videos I've seen in a long time. I found myself going back to watch the passes!! I especially liked the comradery at the end.

Awesome! How old is he? Looks like he has a possible career in the sport. Most of the pro drivers in car racing started a cart champs including my co-driver. Lots of them start racing cars at 14!

Very cool! So I did some cart racing when I was a kid. My dream was to become a race car driver. My dad didn't support the idea and made it hard for me to continue. That was 40 years ago and I still want to be a race car driver and someday I will!
Thanks for sharing.

Congrats to your son.

Nice to see a father doing something special like this with their son.

Your doing a good job dad.

Remeber when the kids were little and we did crazy fun stuff like this.
Wouldn’t trade it for all the money on the planet.

Jim, you do realize you’ve went and started something here which will require future video recordings of his races don’t you?

Ben is 9.

To all of you reading and commenting, if you have a business, Ben could use some sponsors to help with the costs!

What a race by your son Ben. He has situational awareness and one hell of a fighting spirit. Having a supportive and proud father sure helps. There is a future here for sure!

He is 9. My whole career has turned into figuring out a way to pay for this lol. BOE is great, but I needed twice the income, so we started selling RV's. That is doubling every year but his expenses are quadrupling. So now I am focused on a new project while the other two companies run themselves. Hopefully my new endeavor can afford us whatever he needs. But the harsh reality of racing is that you can only go so far as your wallet can take you, unless somebody ponies up and sponsors you at a young age like they did with Lewis Hamilton.

I honestly can't even comprehend my kid or where this talent comes from. He is a complete goofball normally, but once he puts his helmet on he turns into a whole different person. I am literally just along for the ride at this point trying to pay for it. He has three key figures that train him and handle him at the track. Most everyone he competes against is older, and the Europeans he just spanked race exclusively with older kids which is why the Americans at Ben's age are normally at a disadvantage. We race all around the country and know who is who. In kart racing he is the best 9 yr old, no doubt. Been at the top of his class since he started really. If I can figure out how to support it I think he'll remain at the top of his age group and race whatever he wants. It takes about 7 million to get a kid through karts and up the ranks to Nascar or Indy. More for F1. No regrets though on what we've done so far. 4 National Championships, 1 Supernats win which is basically a World Championship (its not really classified as such just known as the most prestigious kart race in the world). And just 2 weeks ago Ben beat the reigning World Champ in the class he is moving into next year at the kids home track!!

It is a really interesting sport. The level and precision to which these kids are trained is mind blowing. Pictured below is the data from one of his sessions. You can see the lap times are identical to 3 one hundreths of a second. Once their tires come in, they will do a whole session and the lap times won't vary by more than two tenths. He's come in before with 5 laps that are within 2 one hundreds. Then their data coach will pick them apart to make them even better.

The people you meet is pretty neat too. In general any racing personality you can think of will end up at a kart track at some point. We just had Kevin Harvick's kid doing a track day in one of our baby karts. Other kart dads we find ourselves watching the racing with at the fence on a regular basis include Fittipaldi, Barichello, Montoya and others. He races against Dan Wheldon's kids. One of the people that looks at Ben's data sometimes is Lance McGrew who crew chiefed for most of the famous Hendricks drivers. It's cool and surreal for these people to compliment my driver.

Paul Barnard and Vantaredoc like this.
