Temps were a bit high today, and sod is a little young at 45 days from install to treat with the Quinclorac 75 so I took care of the sedges with sedgehammer plus. Discovered I also have some kind of moths flying all over, pretty sure they are sod web worms. Need to get things under control before I loose the battle. Can’t believe how many weeds I have in the brand new lawn.

3rd picture may be purple nutsedge, same treatment as the other wedges, sedge hammer should work just fine. Do as little as possible of anything on this new sod. You may want to apply an application of potash for root establishment, but wait until spring before you get to crazy with applications of anything.

Apart from the weed issue, did they check the PH before laying the sod?

Here's an update. Almost completely weed free. Just a bit of common bermuda left to tackle

Doing great.

We switched to Empire Zoysia in 2010. Got tired of cinch bugs mauling the St Augustine, plus all the water st Augustine needs....

The ID on the weeds is correct. Except I don't think you had torpedo grass. The moths are indeed adults of the dreaded sod web worm. Check your Nitrogen level in soil. They really like high nitrogen soil. They'll tear up your grass so kill them ASAP. You'll need about 3-5 months to kill out the life cycle just FYI.

Once your Zoysia gets established it is like a tank. Very drought resistant and pretty much impervious to weeds. Those weeds that do get in there, easy to see and pull as they can't get established in the thick mat of Zoysia roots. Water it like they tell you....few times but long duration. Make that grass fight to get down to the water, that will make it strong. Zoysia is highly susceptible to brown spot fungus. So be careful to not overwater. If brown fungus hits your grass, kjust hit it with some Daconil anti-fungus, it will cure it. May take more than one application though depending on severity of the fungal growth. I can text you some pics of what our 9 year old Zoysia lawn looks like - its amazing. All we do now is cut it. Normal rainfall here pretty much takes care of its water requirements. Seriously, it is that good of a grass once it gets established. PM me and I'll send you my number.
