Once washing done, I stuff them with clean rags and let dry. Only use very light amount of cleaner

My wife would kick my ass if I washed my hats in the dishwasher.
Of course, she expects me to "clean" the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. "But Darling, that's what the dishwasher is for!"

Been working this way for a long time,

Use Dial Antibacterial soap when showering, your hats won’t stink.

That's weird showering with your hat on.

I've done this for since last millennium. No special holders are needed. Just be sure to stuff with rags so hat keeps shape and doesn't shrink after coming out of washer.

I know about trying to keep good hats, but sometimes I see hats so foul that I'm tempted to tell wearer about how to clean. BTW The hot water/cleaners will take the color out of the material over time so do sparingly.

I take mine in the shower, shampoo them and scrub them. I figure the shampoo cleans your hair, so it ought to do a good job cleaning the sweat and hair crap off of a hat.

Works like a charm.

I throw mine in a bucket with some cold water and Tide, let them soak, swish around a bit, rinse and hang dry. They come clean and don't shrink.

Is this better than the washer on gentle? They don't shrink? I only have hot water to my dishwasher.

Oh heck I'll try it - regular dishwasher soap?

A good ball cap can become sacred....especially after that epic day on the water.

Consequently, I let my wife take them into the bubble bath with her. I know she's honored to do so....

Just read it said if you do the dishwasher thing be careful with wool with the hot water - it will shrink - for cotton/polyester follow instructions and use non bleach detergent - specifically Borax.

I think all women do this. Itís like cleaning the house before you have the house cleaners come.
wash the dishes before the dishwasher washes the dishes, why?

And the hat thing works. I usually just get a new one though.
Fishing hats are a different thing. Fishing hats collect mojo, one musnít ever mess with fishing hat mojo, in any way, lest we have fishless trips and even seasons.

I can tell you from first hand experience that washing your snowmobile clutch in the dishwasher doesn't go over that well either.

I throw mine in the washing machine with a load of clothes,
I'm a commercial crabber and I handle a LOT of stinky bloody bait.
As you know, whatever you touch ends up on your hat .
Everything I wore that day gets washed immediately .
