Default Generator oil question

I understand they say you need to change the oil every 4-5 days because it is a fairly small sump and it is not filtered. I was wondering if you could hook up a small gear pump to the drain hole, run it through a filter, increase the volume, maybe add an oil cooler and extend the life of the oil a bit.

Most that are not filtered are splash oiled, and not a pressurized system. It would be almost impossible to incorporate a pump and maintain proper sump level while running. Proper sump level is critical (within reason) on splash oiled motors. Beyond that, very little would be gained. Takes less than 10 minutes to change the oil on my pair of Honda EU2000i's, and they use a touch under 1/2 quart each. Service interval is 100 hours, so hardly inconvenient.
