Default Had to say goodbye to my buddy yesterday

I knew the time was coming and knew it would be rough. Had to bring Baxter, our Collie of 14 years to the vet yesterday for the last time. He was great dog and I will miss him. Whats really hard is watching my other Collie look all over for Baxter. Baxter was the big cheese and the younger Collie was always following him everywhere like a shadow. I feel bad, as I think we waited to long to make this decision. At least my wife and I got to stay with him through out the process. Have a drink tonight in Baxter's honor.

I had to put my Golden Retriever down many years ago. I was there with her and it was beyond heartbreaking.

Almost 3 years since I put my best friend down, and it still hurts. Worst day of my life.

I'm sorry to read you had to say goodbye to Baxter.

Agreed! No matter how many times I've scolded my bloodhound he is always at the door to greet me with a wagging tail. That's more than I can say for my wife lol. Cheers to baxter

I did the same thing with my rotti. I stayed with him until he was gone and then some. It was the second hardest day of my life, the only day harder was the day I lost my father.

Good luck, pets are family.

So sorry Mike. Baxter is a handsome boy.
Our collie Sandie was the first dog I remember my family having while growing up.

My condolences as well. So sorry for your loss.

I hate to think of the day I have to put my buddy Rocky down.....but I think it is merely days away....he will be 15 this month...

below is a picture of us going to get kolaches ...we go every Saturday morning......

Please let me know what you do to get your other Collie over the loss as well.....As my daughter's dog Ellie will surely miss him when he is gone.

I will let you know, I guess the good news is we got a Siamese cat 6 months ago, my younger Collie and that cat love playing with each other. Hope that takes his mind off things.

I, as so many here have been through this to many times now, and it seems to get harder as I get older. Thanks to all you guys for the kind words.

I keep a picture of my first dog Bailey on the side of the fridge. In the beginning, it hurt to see the picture and it made me sad. As time passed, it hurt less and I started to remember the good times. Now when I look at the picture it makes me smile every time. Even after his passing he brings a smile to my face everyday. That is the power of a good boy.
I have Buster now but he is no Bailey. I will always remember him.

I suggest you place a picture of Baxter in a spot where you will see him everyday. He will never be forgotten.

I cried like a little bitch when we put our black lab down. We waited too long, and she had a miserable existence toward the end. I felt bad about that, too.

Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, its the price of being a good pet caretaker.
