Default Restaurant recommendations, Tampa/St. Pete area

Restaurant recommendations, Heading down soon and need a few places that are kid/family friendly, casual and relaxed without being trashy. Kids are 8-10 so no crying babies to contend with but nothing stuffy, just want to relax and enjoy lunch/dinners out.

Just as important are the names of places to avoid.

Must have indoor dining option. We're open to pretty much any cuisine except Indian or middle eastern food.

I have car, I can travel. We're staying beach front in St. Pete, but will be all over the place during our stay. Going to visit Lakewood ranch one day, into eastern parts of Tampa another, will drive down to Siesta Key another day, so it doesn't matter as long as it's ideally not a big chain place.

Salt rock is good, little pricy with a family. Shepards is a decent buffet on the water.
Frenchys is a staple place. Bon Appétit in Dunedin is good. Caddy's on the water in Treasure island for lunch.
If you make your way North to down town Land O Lakes, Larry's deli for a cuban, Alverez (hole in wall at a gas station) for a steak burrito and Ukulele's for some live local music.

Hotel Zamora, St Pete beach, just a hired an excellent chef and it’s a great spot with rooftop bar. Red Mesa, downtown St Pete, good Mexican. Stillwater on Beach Dr in DTSP.

St Pete Beach:
Crabby Bill's for dinner - eat up on the deck, write your name on the chalkboard for the waiting list, get a drink, and look at the ocean

Bay side of St Pete:
Trips Diner for breakfast
The Getaway for lunch
Moon Under Water for dinner, then walk beach drive and get the kids an ice cream cone at Kilwins

Tampa:
Hula Bay for lunch
Columbia for lunch

Siesta Key:
SKOB for lunch

St Armands Circle:
Columbia for lunch

St Pete beach....Nori Thai....damn good food..extensive menu, not expensive!

Take your family to eat at Columbia and watch the flamenco dancers.

its been a while but I had an awesome Sunday brunch at oystercatchers years back

Run up to brooksville to the Florida Cracker Kitchen! Breakfast and lunch. It’s worth the drive!

We find their food to be sweet, almost as if they add sugar.

Some recommendations: Breakfast at Chill on Corey Ave., St. Pete Beach. Best Shrimp & grits ever.

Red Mesa downtown St. Pete.

Island Grill in Tierra Verde.

The Getaway at Gandy Bridge, St. Pete side. They've opened a new one at Maximo Marina, we like it, but they're still working out the kinks. There is no inside seating IIRC.

Nueva Cantina in St. Pete.

Will you have a boat?

No, not Bern's. If the kids are really well behaved, I might try Charlie's in Tampa, or for really good food and a much shorter drive, 1200 Chop in St. Pete Beach. Bern's is really good, but they're very impressed with themselves, and I'd call them "stuffy".

berns is over priced and way over rated! Felt like I was about to make a 70’s porn with all that red velvet!

Charlies is much better than bern’s!

Wow tons of great places. Its a no on the boat, car and foot power. Once we try a few out I'll report back our findings
