Fox News just reported that 6 are safe now. I hope the rest of the operation goes smooth for them.

Fantastic news. For those who haven't considered this, one of the most dangerous parts of a rescue in a cave is the fact that someone who you're next to is terrified and might rip the regulator out of your mouth, stir up silt and make visibility zero, etc. These types of things don't even compare to a normal cave dive.

Here's an interesting documentary for those intrigued by cave recovery efforts.

I hope after all are out safely they seal the entrance to the damn cave. I see no useful purpose to keeping it open.

10's of thousands of dives have been completed in Ginnie Springs, even though it's been the site of several deaths. You can't go sealing off nature every time an accident happens. We'd have no national parks to climb at, no parks to back country camp at, no caves to dive in, private airports would be closed, several inlets for boating would get closed, etc if we had this knee jerk reaction and shut anything remotely risky down.

This Thai cave doesn't compare to anything you listed.

I live on a mountain in the Smoky's .
There is an underground cave system.
From time to time .I get a bat in the cabin.
Up my mtn towards cades cove in the natl park is a cave they Shut on Rich mtn .
Folks have evidently died while looking for the lost Cherokee gold,
I saw that cave when it was open.
You aren't getting me in there. Not no .but hell no.

After what we all have seen from this Thai cave a man would have to have a death wish to step inside. I can't imagine the Thai government not sealing it.

What's so special about this Thai cave? We have sumps all over the world with challenges just like the Thai cave that people regularly use for recreational activities.

This same argument has been used to dynamite Morrison Springs in North Florida, and grate off Ginnie Springs (the actual Ginnie Springs, not the one you'll see on youtube, Devils Spring system located on Ginnie proprety) in North Florida, both of which would be perfectly safe dives by today's standards.

6 boys out safely and sent to hospital for medical check ups so far.

That cave is popping them out like an old Labrador having pups...
