Default EZ pass NJ/Fl

Do they use the same EZ pass in Fl, as they do in NJ?

Heading to Fl at some point this summer, renting a car and figure I'll pack my NJ EZ pass for tolls, I assume it's the same system in both states, let me know if I'm wrong, or have a good laugh when I get billed thousands of $'s in fines for evading tolls.

Are there any states that use a different system then EZ pass for toll roads?

No. Not the same. Florida uses Sun Pass. The whole country except Florida uses EZ Pass.

Wrong answer.

You'll be good.

E-ZPass users can use pass, get discount on Central Florida toll roads - Orlando Sentinel

Both answers above are correct.

FL uses Sunpass, but some roads will accept EZ Pass. Not all of them, though. So it really depends on where you are going.

Heading to the Sarasota, Tampa, St. Pete area, will most likely stay within that general area, not hitting Orlando or anything on the east coast this trip.

Either way, you won't get any crazy fines. They'll bill by mail according to your license plate info. Try to put it thru your EZ Pass account if you get a letter. If it doesn't work, just pay a lump sum for the tolls rather than having to stop and dig for change along the way.

EZ Pass is accepted in most of the state, so just plead ignorance and beg forgiveness as needed. You'll be fine.

Here you go. You can use our roads but we can't use yours.

So depending on what road you are on, EZ Pass may work. I didn’t know that.
thanks

FL has two agencies that collect tolls, only. one is compatible with EZ Pass.
The E-ZPasses will be functional on toll roads managed by the Central Florida Expressway Authority: 118 miles on State Roads 408, 414, 417, 429, 451, 528 and 429. They will not work on toll roads managed by the Florida Department of Transportation, like Florida’s Turnpike.
Also SC does not take EZ Pass, but you may not encounter any toll roads in SC if you're just running I-95.

Not necessarily. I have the old E-Pass transponder and it works on all SunPass roads. I refuse to upgrade because my E-Pass is not permanently attached to the vehicle, like the new SunPass are. I like to have the ability to put that thing in any vehicle I might be traveling in.

There's a concerted effort to make all of these systems compatible across the country. It's actually a federal mandate to do so by a certain date, if I recall correctly.

Like I said, you won't be penalized if you go thru the speed lanes. If you are, I'll pay the difference!

Pretty much all of the toll roads around here are toll by plate. So, you'll get a bill in the mail. It will be regular toll rate, not discounted like SunPass, but also not a fine. Some of the bridges and smaller roads still have a toll attendant. So, you should still be able to pay cash if needed.

Oh, yeah. Based on where you are going, you won't run into a ton of toll roads. If you are in Tampa, there are a few (Veterans & Selmon) and they are toll by plate, but in Pinellas, there aren't a ton of toll roads. Skyway is toll, and last time I went over, there was still the option to pay cash. There is also a toll bridge to get to Ft. DeSoto, but apart from that Pinellas is pretty much toll-free.

Where's Old Pete? Surely there is a complaint about this for both states
