Default Think twice before you floor it.

We have all floored our cars from time to time to get the adrenalin rush but what a dumb thing to do. I'm sure he was having fun but he left behind two kids a wife and patients who depended on him. I was stuck in traffic yesterday right after it happened. This also is not a section of road to be doing 150 in.

Report: UNC REX doctor killed in Wade Avenue crash was driving Porsche close to 150 mph

1 killed in crash on Wade Avenue in Raleigh (WTVD)
Updated 19 mins ago
RALEIGH (WTVD) --
A Raleigh man is dead after police said he was involved in a serious crash on Wade Avenue Thursday afternoon.

According to a police report, Matthew Strouch, a colorectal surgeon with UNC REX Healthcare, was driving a Porsche on West Wade Avenue and trying to exit onto I-40 East.

Police said he was unable to maintain control of his vehicle due to excessive speed and left the roadway.

The vehicle then became airborne and struck a tree.

A police report states Strouch was driving 148 miles per hour during the crash.

He was transported to WakeMed, with serious life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

Following the incident, UNC REX issued the following statement:

"Our UNC REX Healthcare family is devastated by the death of Dr. Matthew Strouch, a highly regarded and compassionate colorectal surgeon. Our condolences go out to his wife and children, his patients and his co-workers. Dr. Strouch was Medical Director of the Colorectal Division of North Carolina Surgery and specialized in life-saving procedures for patients with colon and rectal cancer and other gastrointestinal problems. He joined UNC REX in 2012."

Strouch was a father of two; his son is in the second grader and his daughter is in third.

Do people buy these cars thinking they can just take turns at over 100mph because they're performance cars? I mean, you still have to know how to drive at that speed and know the limitations of the vehicle.

It's Porsche's fault, the family should sue.

This was on a straight section of road.

It is silly to assume, but I can only guess that someone merged into his lane, he had to avoid, and went off of the road. 2017+ 911 Turbo

I took this to mean he was attempting to exit a highway; i.e. exit ramp.

Those Porsche cars are dangerous. Our neighbor had one. It drove him into two accidents that resulted in DUI convictions, then drove him into bankruptcy when his medical practice folded.

Or maybe the real danger is just some Porsche owners...

I have had two 911's, incredible cars and enjoyed tracking them. But you can get but you can get to trouble real quickly, particularly if you take of the traction control or ither safety features.
Friend of a friend has one, a Dr, took him and his wife out merging onto the bridge here at over140mph saying it was impossible to crash a Porsche. Amazes me that an intelligent person would have this attitude, but there again he is allways crashing his big boat into something as well.

150mph, public streets... not going to end well, get away with it a few times until you don't.

If it's the turn described in the article then it is a 270 degree turn to the right with a pretty tight radius. (Unless the road layout has changed since I lived there.)

It was sarcasm. Paul Walkers family tried to sue Porsche saying there was a flaw in the handling and wreck had nothing to do with the high speed. It's always someone else's fault if you hurt or kill yourself, nomesayin?

That's crazy, pretty sure I drove past that yesterday, there were a dozen police cars and a mangled car off in the trees.

I'm curious about their 148 mph claim. It takes a special kind of stupid to break 100 mph on a curved onramp, even though it was a bright sunny day with no traffic.
