Default Walkers Cay Chronicle

I'm staying at Treasure Cay all summer and decided to run the new Bahama 41 up to Walkers Cay yesterday to take a look at her and get an idea of where she is now so I can follow the progress of her restoration. I took a ton of pictures to document everything and put them into an album that I thought many people would find interesting and like to see. The link to the album is below:

https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0rJEsNWnJPLSCV

I would like to make this a general thread about Walkers where people can share any pictures they have of the place and tell any stories or memories they have of the island so feel free share any and everything you have.

My grandparents started going to Walkers wayyy back in like the 70s on their 34' Striker "Iron Spinnaker". Over the years they upgraded boats to a 46' Hatteras "Huntress" that spent every summer at Walkers, and a 52' Hatteras "Huntress" that spent every summer at Walkers until around 1999-2000. My mom spent every summer growing up at Walkers fishing with my grandparents or running around in their little Seacraft they had with the big boat exploring and diving the area. Ever since I was little (I am 21) they have told hundreds of stories of their time at Walkers that made me wish that I could have been a part of it. Though I was never able to experience Walkers in all its glory, it still feels like a special place to me because of all the stories they have told me. Being able to finally see it (last time I went I was 2 so I don't remember anything) and walk around her was pretty damn awesome. I am extremely excited to see it being reborn and cannot wait to see how it comes along.

Cool place and awesome pictures. I used to fly there all the time in the early 90’s...

I've never been there, but it is nice to know that it will be brought back from the dead.

Thanks for all those pictures. What a fun adventure!

Thanks for the pics, Nick!!! It's refreshing to see someone your age appreciate things like this and value the opportunities your parents have given you. Not many kids today have your moral standing, so I'm gonna guess your parents must be pretty awesome!!!!

I've envied that Nordhavn at EGYC for years!!!! Now you got a sweet new boat for me to envy!

I had heard that, but I guess they took care of that problem a year or two ago.

Thank you for the kind words! I owe it all to my parents. Growing up I did not necessarily always agree with them but looking back on it I wouldn't have changed a thing. They have done an amazing job raising me and my three brothers and turning us into the people we are today. I owe them everything. So yes, they are pretty awesome!!

That Nordhavn has been an amazing boat for us and is sure to be for the same for whoever buys her. When I get back at the end of summer with the Bahama I'll have you take you out for a ride!

The pictures make at Keats some of the buildings appear in pretty good shape. Does it look like anything can be reused or will it all need to come down?

LOL!!! No one agrees with their parents while growing up! Having the understanding why you didn't agree back then is what differentiates you from most. Next time you find yourself heading North on the Grand Canal take the first canal East after Samson Island, right where it meets Tortoise Island. Me and my neighbor will be sitting at the end having a beer. I'll be looking for the Bahama w quads!

I hope everything goes through. When I was younger we had a 23 Mako in the 90’s. Every time we made plans to go we got blown out by the wind. We then went boatless for a few years and 2004 happened. It would be nice to take my kids there once it’s up and going again.

That brings back some memories. I used to fly into Walkers quite a bit back in ‘89. The family I worked for had a plane and boat, We would chase the boat over to Walkers. Fond memories and great times.

Maybe a handful of the structures look like they can be reused if Carl Allen wants to, such as the church or that little yellow house facing the beach (Its AC was running). My guess would be that he wants to just start all over completely.
