Default Two Basset Hounds need new home

My 9 year old, spayed female Basset Hounds, Gracie and Glory, need a new home. I am heartbroken of this situation--it's divorce collateral. They're sweet natured and have lived with cats and a potbellied pig all their lives. They haven't lived with young children but are generally quite good with them.

The dogs are in Oceanside. I am in Laguna Niguel. I am able to provide transport anywhere within a day's drive.

Please don't bash me over this. Nobody feels worse about it than I do, and I yes, I DO understand the responsibilities of pet ownership.

Wow. As master to two Bassets myself, I am saddened to hear this Sheila. Good luck.....

If no one rises to their rescue, have you contacted the breeder you bought them from (if you did buy them from a breeder)? My younger Basset was bought from a reputable breeder, who insisted in writing that for whatever reason they would take Yogi back if we could not care for him.

Another option is a local Basset rescue organization. Here is one for SoCal:

I am sorry for what you are going through. Bassets are one of the most loyal family-oriented pets you can get, so I appreciate that your decision and reality is hard.

Best of luck.

Thanks, Sal...I'd forgotten that you were a Basset guy, too. Is your other one Sandy? Or am I imagining that? And she's blind?

I'm looking into all my options at this point. And yes, our breeder had a similar agreement with us, but he has moved and I haven't been able to locate him.

I haven't googled him in about 6 months. I'll try it again.

If nobody closer can take them, we can. We are a dog family for sure. We lost our basset a couple years ago. We currently have two boxers and an english mastiff, but there's plenty of room. We have five acres fenced in with invisible fence and a doggie door (big enough for the mastiff). I would hate to see them make the cross country trip, but I hate to see them separated also.

Team Fountain, thank you! I am hopeful to find a closer-to-home solution, but I know their age will be a factor....

I've had them since they were 7 weeks old and the thought of separating them is reallly, really tough.

Anybody wanna help organize the x-country basset rescue relay?

Sandy is 9 and blind; Yogi is six months. Try that Baaset Rescue Sheila..... they will typically try to keep them together.

Sheila,

Best of luck. I have a Gordon Setter, and could not imagine parting with him.

Best thing about loving your dogs as much as you do is you will send them to another good home who will take as good care of them as you did.

Keep us posted.

Dear Sheila,

My name is Gail . I live in Farmingdale, and my husband is a subscriber to this board. We have an

11 year old bulldog(Sophie) and a 4 year old Heinz 57 dog(Blueberry). We would like to take Glory and Gracie

if possible. We are avid dog people, and if you want to I can give you the phone # of my vet.

My heart goes out to you and your girls, you must be devastated.

Gail Z.

Let's not throw a pity party, but hard wouldn't even begin to take us there.

Thanks, everyone, for your support.
