Default Can anyone run a license plate? Hit and run

A few weeks ago some a-hole plowed over my new mailbox. I got the whole thing on video but couldn't quite make out their license plate number. They had a very distinctive vehicle. I was pulling into the Home Depot parking lot yesterday and guess who was pulling out....I got the license plate and confirmed by matching it was 100% the same truck. I made a report with BSO and they give me the song and dance that because I didn't have the LP in my security video they couldn't do anything...this guy had the same wheels, tires, door handles, bed cover, tints, tail lights, stickers, etc. One would call this a smoking gun....anyway I'd like to figure out his contact info and have a conversation about him covering the costs that I incurred by having to replace my mailbox again. A cop friend is about the only way I know of, GL

or maybe call DMV, tell them thats your plate number and it was stolen, ask if they can mail you a new one then confirm the mailing address since "you just moved"?

Yeah I got that far but I need a name an address. I confirmed the vehicle has been owned by the same guy since 2016 so it's not like he did it, then sold it.

Vin is supposedly 5TFEY5F15BX109673

Perhaps you can get additional info from someone at a toyota dealership?

Edit, you might be able to get public records:

If you can’t find someone, you can try this route: https://www.flhsmv.gov/pdf/forms/90510.pdf

That’s BS that the cops wouldn’t help you since you didn’t have the plate on your security footage.

Worst case, I’m sure he’ll be back at Home Depot.

Thanks guys. I might give the websites a try. I was hoping maybe someone had DMV access so I can figure out who his insurance company is. I have a feeling he is going to deny it video or not. The cop that came out almost pissed me off, she was like what if it was an accident....I don't care what it was, the mail box was 1 week old and damaged beyond repair. I caught him on my back camera circle around my house and stop to check out my boat....I have a feeling it wasn't an accident. I personally think it might have been a contractor that was mad I didn't select them. I had just had a lot of work completed at my house right before this happened with multiple bids.

Smoking gun or not.....you make the call.

He drove by the mailbox, stopped, then backed over it.

If you think it's a contractor, run the licenses for the ones who came and bid it, see what the addresses are and go see if the truck is there

Wait.. the guy actually sideswiped your mailbox with his relatively new $40k truck? Or he managed to take it out intentionally with tires that stick out too far?

I’d be more concerned with him checking out the boat.

Print that picture out, laminate it, and stick it on your trailer tongue. LOL

If you really think this was intentional, I’d go ahead and dig up the info you can, but I don’t think its worth going after the guy. If this was the reaction to something you’re NOT sure how you pissed him off, doesn’t look like he’s bright enough not to escalate the situation more.

4 cut tires or a cut brake line with a mailbox in the bed of his truck might send a message

I really don't think you are going to get anything out of chasing this guy down. Anyways I'm not 100% sure its the same truck. Look at the tailpipe in your first photo and look at it in your last.

Personally; I would let it go. It was just a mailbox. The guy knows where you live, so I would think about that carefully before any retaliatory acts. I would try to get his insurance and give them a call and see what they say. That doesn't hurt. But what is a mailbox and post? like $50?

I say no smoking gun. Did you see any damage on his truck from allegedly hitting your mailbox? Also, as noted not 100% sure it is the same truck.

Strange. Seems like a good way to scratch up your pimped out Tundra.

I'd like to know where he lives as well..... I'm not going to burn his house down but I'd be happy to let me write me a check or let his insurance deal with it.

The mail box and the post was $100 and I paid another $100 to have it painted to match my house and the numbers airbrushed on. Then I got to do it all over again....let me tell you how fun it is to dig out 80lbs of concrete in South Florida.

Yes there were two scratches forward of his tire on the bedside.

Could the scratch marks on the truck match your mailbox, height, color?....just a thought
