Default "I want to buy forum, who wants to bid?" ... crazy?

I'm thinking about all the vendors that are on THT... would a forum page where you could post up something you want to buy, when you want to buy it, and then have the different vendors PM you with a "Special THT" price?

For example, I'm getting ready to buy a

ACR ELECTRONICS
GlobalFix™ V4 EPIRB Category II

and I know there are at least 6 people on THT that sell them...

Crazy? If so, I can take it.

Right? Then if the vendor is interested, they're interested, and if they're not -- that's cool too. No need to chase, etc. You could even note how long the "big window" is open, etc.

Not bad Pete, surely worth a trial run. Win/win.

I like it, vendors could bid if they're looking to move inventory.

I thought you were trying to buy THT. But I like your idea.

Just don't ask to buy jigs or rigs. Your computer will explode.

You would think... I haven't had the best luck that way... but I'll try it right now, and let's see what kind of results I get.

Hi Pete-
I'm going to throw the BS flag on that. I agree that THT should provide a WTB section. It just makes sense.
But, to add threads to a Vendor forum, where Vendors PAY to advertise denies them front page presence in that forum. Imagine if every Tom, Dick, and Harry started a thread on there. I want a GPS. I want a Widget... That post bumps someones post to page 2.
I'm all for a deal, as you well know, but your execution is flat out wrong.
If you disagree, buy a Vendor membership and have at it.
YMMV
Bob

Just to add...
In BOLD, right at the top of that forum, it states: COMMERCIAL SELLERS ONLY

That forum is a mess. No need to make it a bigger mess.

I think I might not have explained it well... I don't want to add anything to a vendor forum. Just a sub-forum where you could post something you're interested in buying and vendors could post up an offer.

Having sub-forums for each vendor on THT, IMHO, is stupid.

Pete, I'm referring to this post you made in the VENDOR "Commercial SELLERS ONLY" forum:
https://www.thehulltruth.com/fishing...balfix-v4.html
I agree there should be a WTB section. As I said, the interest is there, and the topic is ripe.
There should also be a Fishing gear/tackle section. The guys selling lures can't seem to control themselves, and the MODS aren't enforcing the posted rules.

Ah! 10-4. Yeah... I've posted up a couple of the WTB threads before... at least I think I did. They don't go anywhere. Hence my desire for a straight-up forum where people *who are ready to buy* would post...

OTOH, I think some of the vendors have sort of given up. I don't see nearly the Electronics "stuff" being posted anymore. I can remember when you would post up a thread about wanting to buy such-and-such and three would be a feeding frenzy.

As a buyer I love the idea. If I were a vendor, I hate the idea as reverse auctions usually only result in profit erosion. Also I think the “vendors” have become saturated on tht and it’s more about advertising and seo for them than it is about actually selling.

In on the end though, no big deal to tht to try it

I think you may be right on the THT saturation. I see very little action anymore on threads. To make matters even more interesting it appears that West Marine has the best price on the ACR I'm looking at. That's pretty crazy when they're the cheapest compared to THT... I guess things are changing, as they often do.

Would you limit it to just THT members or make it more like a reverse E-Bay where you can buy or in this case get offers on anything?

Why limit your audience?

I might be up to invest some duckets if the business plan were sound.

I was only looking at from a smaller scale... THT vendors that are interested in bidding on a sale.

On a small local forum, they have a form that you fill out. It then goes to the paid sponsors and they can message you if they have one in stock and the price. I have used it a few times with good results.
