Default Electronics Locks

Has anyone seen/ used/ heard of this unique lock that prevents theft of GPS/ Marine electronics? Do they work or worth the money?
The lock acts as a knob, replacing one factory knob from either side of the unit. Apparently these knobs come in a variety of thread sizes.

I think they would probably keep an honest man.... honest. Other than that I doubt they would do much. I would imagine a pair of sheet metal shears would make short work of the sides of the bracket.

I looked at those but if I wanted to steal the piece it wouldn't take me more than about 30 seconds to accomplish the task, and I'm not an experienced thief. I went with the detachable gimbal mounts from Johnny Ray. That way the piece of electronics goes with me and is not left on the boat.....

If a theif wants to steal it bad enough, they are going to take it. My opinion is that they would do more damage to the boat with this lock installed.
I just installed a new GPS and was thinking the same thing. The best thing is to remove it and put it in a safe place.

Waste of money - do not fall for petty gimmicks. That thing would not even deter the worst of thieves.

I really wasn't thinking in terms of the worst of thieves, I was thinking more along the lines of the grab and dash person. See not only do I use the boat for fishing but I also use it for scuba and pleasure boating with the Misses. Sometimes we'll pull along side a dock or into a marine to stretch the legs, get a bite to eat or do a little shopping at some port. It is here were I was thinking this device would be enough of a deterent for the would-be thief?
