I LOVE the idiot California commentary. "This guy almost ran into me!"

Oh, how inconvenient for you. I'm sure the pilot was just being an inconsiderate jerk and landed the plane in the street because it was easy. Plus working in the "just leaving the gym"...total bonus points.

Wow! If that chick had balls, they'd bounce off her knees.

I think this is the second story on THT in the last couple weeks about great women pilots.

My first GF at The U was a transfer from Embry Riddle and had soloed for the first time a couple months before.

Ffunny how they make her sound like a hero. Pretty selfish to put so many in the way of danger to save her own butt. I may be biased as I lost a friend to an aircraft landing on the beach.

When $hit hits the fan and you have to make what may be life or death decision in seconds, or less, you just hope/pray you chose the correct ones.

My dad was a B24 pilot in the South Pacific in WW2. On a long range bombing mission the plane took numerous hits over the target, some to the fuel system and it started to leak gas. He ordered the crew to throw everything out to lighten the plane in hopes that they could make it back. As a young boy I asked if they even threw out the machine guns and was shocked to hear that they did. He said that the only thing left was the seat bottom for his seat. He made it! He got a medal for his heroism in saving his crew and the plane. He was embarrassed to have the medal, he said that he would have tried to convince the crew to jump out as well if it would have saved his own butt.

I see a lot of people called heroes who don't really deserve that appellation, they're only doing their job or basically saving themselves. In this case if the pilot was a true hero she would not have landed on a street where it would be almost certain that a driver or pedestrian would be put at great risk.

the lanes on either side looked like parked and parking cars, one of the ones in the video was parallel parking before deciding to go look at the plane

Venice? That one was awful. He should have put down in the drink instead of on a busy beach.

Very lucky but great job by the pilot. And better awareness by the drivers. But how annoying was the chicks voice in the video. Imagine having to live with that. You probably have jump in front of the plane if you did.

Yeah that situation could have been much worse. I would have tried the same thing though. You often don’t have much of a choice of where you can put them down.

Theres actually been a rash of small plane engine failures. The rocorcraft transition programs the airlines are running are putting pilots in the air all day long to get their faa fixed wing ratings as quickly as possible.

Once landed a Piper Tomahawk on a golf course in Jacksonville, FL. Engine failure, cops came out, NTSB report, fix the problem. Got special permission through the FAA to take off from the slight dogleg 9th hole and flew back to Craig Field. I think the only one to get mad at me was the guy putting on the 8th green.

Just curious why do you have to get special permission from the FAA, my neighbor has a strip at his house that is not register and he flies in and out of there every day as a commercial pogy Spotterband never had to ask for Permission
