Default New Toy - It's Must Be an Addiction

Bough a new FN 5.7. This is a stock photo but it's the new MKII. I probably need to join GA.

Self defense.

Bud's has them for $1,299 with free shipping but then have to pay a $25-$30 transfer. Got it from a local dealer for about $50 less than that. Apparently the MKII is hard to find right now.

Can anyone purchase one of those or do you need to be LE or equivalent, what does the ammo cost?

You don't have to be LE to purchase but the gun with the 20+1 mags aren't legal in some states. They do make one that comes with 10 round mags that is legal in California. Ballistic tip ammo is somewhere between 23 cents and 28 cents depending on whether you buy bulk or not. Nasty little round with very little recoil.

Being a gun owner, but not a gun aficionado, what is it? I know it's a pistol, semi auto and why would one need to be an LE or equivalent to purchase one? Don't want one, but it is a nice looking pistol.

The fn fiveseven shoots a 5.7 round. It's a small high velocity round that's made to penetrate Kevlar.

Instead of trying to explaining it, hopefully these links will help. Basically it is a lightweight semi that holds 20+1 of necked down 5.7 cartridge rounds that will push around 2,500 FPS with very little recoil

Pretty broad statement. Which grades of Kevlar. Which 5.7 rounds? Please elaborate. ???

At rifle velocities, you need plates, not Kevlar.

I did a google search before I posted my question.....all that technical stuff went over my head. As I said, I'm an owner (.22 pistol and rifle, .357 revolver), not an aficionado. Elgreco809 made it plain enough English for me to get the basic understanding. Not my thing, but I can understand the appeal...have fun with it.

Was my statement not accurate? Was the round not originally developed as a military replacement for 9mm with the intention to be able to defeat basic soft body armor?

Depends how many weapons you have, that's the tell if you need to join G.A.

Less than 100, no, 100-200 you need to think about it. Over 300, no, too late!

Great gun....I bought mine back prior to the Ft Hood shooting that made it so popular ..I also picked up an unopened ammo can of the ss190 ammo. Didn't know anything about the amo back then. There are many different versions of that ammo..there's also a guy who does custom loads but they're pricey...I picked up a few 30rd clips

It's supposed to be a LEO only round
Blue tip if I recall
Even if you could obtain them carrying them in your pistol is illegal
