Default The Americans ending, opinions??

I watched every episode of The Americans since the beginning. I have always said some episodes were better then others but never a bad one, great show. Aside from the confrontation with Stan, the ending was IMO a little flat. I kept waiting for Elizabeth to quick draw or throw a knife into Stanís throat. I was surprised how he let them go.

The unanswered question about Renee, my gut feeling that she was an operative of some US intel agency and not a Ruskie but I donít have anything to back that up with.

What did you guys think about both the ending and if Renee is just the perfect girlfriend or is she a spy??

I was sort of surprised Phil and Eliz stayed together. Thought Phil would stay with the son and Eliz and the daughter would go to Russia. The ending was ambivalent but they were (Phil more so) both ambivalent about the work. Was not surprised Stan let them go as he was a decent person.

You saw the thread title..

I've watched them all too, was a little disappointed but it wasn't bad. Definitely didn't end as well as Longmire or Justified

and it stunk... way too much music playing and just summarizing a lot of loose ends

I liked the series and the ending.Nobody else had to die.I wouldn't mind a follow up either around Stan and the kids.Maybe he and his missus adopts the kids and they are a new spy ring.

I think this ending allows for a future sequel where Paige follows in mom's footsteps. This opens all sorts of possibilities regarding Henry. The vodka was the clincher.

The writers did an amazing job of making Philip and to a lesser degree Elizabeth ďlikableĒ despite being brutal killers. Yes a lot of the people they killed had it coming and were evil but there were quite a few totally innocent people who ended up dead at the hands of the couple. The old lady working the night shift in the factory that Elizabeth essentially made commit suicide was BRUTAL and there were others. Only reason the kid who worked for Sam Nunn didnít die was because of Paige, otherwise that kid would have had his throat ripped out.

I must confess, I kinda liked the idea that they didnít DIE, but in a righteous World, Stan would have put Elizabeth down, wounded Philip and knocked out Paige.....
