Default PNW for 1 week ?

Taking the family to Seattle for 8 days in July ....

I have been there once on a ski trip (Whistler)- but not with the kids... They range from 13 to 22...

Thinking Seattle for 2 days, maybe one day round trip ferry out to the San Juan's,,, then 2 days Mt Rainier ,,, and 3 days in Vancouver ...

We have a 1pm flight so assume I can leave Vancouver early the day of departure and get to the airport by say 11am ... its a saturday morning

Any suggestions greatly appreciated !!!!

Ferry from anacortes to friday harbor will be cool. Very little town. Can grab a bite, drive around the island to Roche Harbor, see more nice scenery and big boats.

Mt Rainier or St Helens will be great sights.

NW Trek wildlife park is pretty cool for viewing some local wildlife (critters, not people).

Pioneer square to to view the bums, heroine addicts shooting up, tent cities, and the like...

San Juan Islands.

Do the Anacortes Ferry to Friday Harbor then shuttle to Roche. Or better yet take a Kenmore flight from Lake Union to Roche Harbor. It is an awesome flight via float plane. If I am around I would be happy to take you out for a little cruise on the Cabo.

I would probably skip Seattle, considering the spectacular scenery.

Olympic National Park is really hard to beat.
Where else can you be in an alpine meadow( mountain goats) then the Hoh River valley(Rain Forest) and then on the Pacific coast in a single day.

Mt Rainer a couple of ideas- Box canyon and if inclined a hike to Camp Muir(10,600 ft) There was a spectacular picture in one of the stairwells at the climbing school(?) taken by a climber just before a fatal fall, go see it.

A trip to a Boeing assembly plant

Seattle: Boeing. Paul Allen's music museum if your kid's are into. Needle is close and worth the hour or so. There is a place where you go under a lock to see salmon go up.

Been too long since I have been to Vancouver but I hear it is jammed.

I'd also skip Seattle.

Out of Vancouver, my Rainier, and San Juan islands if you have to pick two skip rainier. You've been to plenty of mountains. The San Juan islands are as cool as it gets.

I always hate travel days when when I'm already traveling. My wife tries to cram a ton of things onto the itinerary, I'd rather get the most out of the few things I do.

The Boeing factory just north of Seattle is very impressive and definitely worth a visit

Probably limit Seattle to the day we land at 11am ....

Hit the fish market and few places ... then head out to San Juan's if I can find lodging ...

Whats the best Island for restaurants, Shopping, hiking and biking?

You also might consider getting over to Victoria, much better than Vancouver IMO..you can do this a number of ways.from Seattle go over to bainbridge island take in Indian salmon BBQ,then to Port Angeles taking the Coho ferry Black Ball Line to Victoria....or Seattle hop in one of the Clippers to Sidney, drive into Victoria only a couple of miles....or take a Washington State ferry out of Anacortes to Sidney...I've spent a lot of time in Victoria what a great place....side note if going to Canada you'll need Pass Ports for all, plus birth certificates for the kids.also your drivers license's.best to check first...I always cross in our boat and we have NEXUS passes works great.....For the activities you want San Jaun island would suit you well.(not to mention a boat ride) have PSW tell you about the Pig War.......Hope you have a great time...Brad

we did it in the true PNW spirit. Kayaks and camping. Boys trip. Probably not the best way with four kids 13-22.

Just sent my cousin an email, I'll report back. He is a guide out there and has been for quite some time.

All good suggestions.

You can do an Orca watching boat trip from Friday Harbor which is good with the kids.

Pikes Place is great for about 5 minutes. Don't plan to buy fish at the fish throwing place. If you do get some smoked salmon there, tell them you want about 1/3rd of what you really want. In other words, "1/4 lb" will net you 3/4 lb and a bill for $40.

The Boeing Flight Museum is Seattle's best redeeming destination. I would recommend this above all others. I could just stare at the F4U and the other military planes for hours. Could also spend $100 on doing the flight simulator over and over.

Ferry to Friday Harbor over Rainier.

The “fish market” is literally one place in Pike’s Market. Kind of a cool market, bust, meh.

the Museum of Flight is pretty cool.

Tacoma has a glass glowing museum and working hot shop if you’re interested. Also has a bridge with a crapload of Chihully glass.

I think there here are also options for touring tone of the Boeing plants just nort of Seattle (Paine Field Airport).

Victoria is awesome.

Seattle is a cool city to visit.

I agree on replacing Victoria BC with Vancouver. I visit Victoria almost every year and never get tired of it.

If Seattle is anything like Portland skip it. Ranier and Mt. St. Helens are very cool. Did not make it any further north.

RE: San Juan, there's not all that much in terms of civilization. San Juan island is the "main" island. I'd think of this as the fun active part of the trip, Vancouver as the plush, good food, good shopping part. And Seattle for a day will probably be Perfect.

Clipper vacations does all sorts of things out of downtown. Whale watching in the San Juans with a stop in Friday Harbor, overnights to Victoria. You can even do combo float plane- ferry trips with them.
