By a hair. He isn't winning the longest race of it. If preakness was another 1/16 mile, he wouldn't be in black eyed susans.

Great ‘mudder’. Both races were slow, run in the slop. If the third race is run in good, dry conditions, that will tell the tale of this horse.

Thinking same thing.

Got to pull for him in the Belmont in 3 weeks, Triple Crown's are very special and neat to see

Discussions continue every year to move the Preakness to Laurel but most that are involved believe it will never leave Pimlico.
Too much of a Baltimore tradition.

I was at the Belmont for the last Triple Crown winner, American Pharaoh. It was my first horse race ever, and a remarkable experience. We managed to stand at the rail and watch it all unfold just feet away.

My fiance tells me we're going again to witness history.

100%.

Mike Smith loves to get the jump out of the gate, does Justify have the reserve on the back stretch when he lets him out.

Fresh horses in the field that are well rested running against him after slogging through the mud twice. It's to hard on even these physical unicorns to overcome.

Side note I think the field should be limited to the original horses that ran at Church Hill. Don't think it's fair to bring in fresh horses in the later races.

He will need to run a different race at a different pace to win the Belmont.

The Kentucky derby was run at a blistering pace through the first half mile and 3/4 pole. He took the lead with a good way to go and held off the only other horse running with him without a ton of difficulty.

At the Preakness, the pace was much more reasonable for a major crown race, he was in the lead for quite a bit of the second half of the race with a couple of horses pressing him. As pointed out, he held out but just barely.

If the Belmont pace is quick, he will need to sit back and let these other horses who probably cannot keep that up for 12 furlongs burn themselves out before jumping in front. If it is a slow pace, it will be a chess match.

There is a reason why there are so few triple crown winners. Here is to an exciting race come Belmont time!

Secretariat circled the field twice – Church Hill and at Pimlico, he set the pact at Belmont. That Sham was a pretty good horse, that was one of the very few to challenge him. Big Red was just an amazing specimen who was physically gifted even for this class of horses. Pre race in front of the crowd in the grand stand he exhibited confidence putting on a show before getting in the gate.

He was one special animal
