Default Well, I'm an idiot, yes I know- IRS

So I went to pay my IRS taxes today. I saw an amount of money that looked like I owe.
So I paid it.
After that I realized that, that # is actually the refund I got back 2 years ago and owe about 1/2 of what I just paid.

48 mins on the phone and the nice girl told me "oh yeah, it happens all the time, we'll refund you the money within 3 weeks"

Wonder if they will consider it a refund and tax you on it next year?

I find the tax system to be a lot of work for me. And they talk of tax simplification, but it doesn't happen, only taxes more complicated.

Paying taxes implies you don’t own anything. You are simply being granted the revokable access to a percentage of what you earn. Your property? Think again, even if it’s paid off. You are simply borrowing it from the government and if you stop paying your dues, they will revoke your right to the property.

Government apologists be like “but muh roadz” so yea I guess if we didn’t have government we would all still be living in caves riding horses and donkeys to the grocery store.

what if we did away with the personal income tax? We would have to go ALLLLLL the way back to something like 2006 spending levels to have a balanced budget.

We are bejng robbed and silently raped by special interests through the long d* of the government.

Remember that shit.

Yeah, sarcasm, but they can tax state refunds, which was your money to begin with. Well, it's all our money to begin with, but that's bull.

Don't worry about it. A lot of people do what you did on purpose every month so they get a big refund each year.

Our accountant one year under calculated our refund by $7k or $8k one year. We only found out when the IRS sent us a second check. We would have fired him, but he died before that happened.

I guess he got a pass on the boo-boo. RIP.

Only because they allowed you to DEDUCT state taxes. We need to ELIMINATE all or most of the deductions and lower the overall rate. Everyone should be paying the same portion to keep the feds working. Having deductions really hides who is getting federal assistance. If you get federal assistance (personal or corporate) then the feds should be cutting checks to those people so we ALL know where those federal $$ are going.
