Pest control guys? Ugh... BED BUGS!
My son spent a couple of years in Panama. Guess what he brought home with him... Yup, you guessed it. They are now in his room.

He noticed fresh bites and found live bugs this morning.

What immediate steps should I take, what long-term plan should I implement. Thanks for any professional advice.
(and for you "Have you done a search?" guys... yes... I have googled and searched it, for a couple hours! For the wannabe internet experts, I have probably read what you may copy and paste)

I'm pretty sure everything goes in plastic bags and seal them with duck tape at the top. Call a professional and pay the price. I'm sure you'll get better ideas soon. I just remember what my SIL did.

I'll cut and paste. Call a professional . It takes heat and insecticides.

Local bug guy I talked to set up heaters and heated the room up to I think 135F for a few hours. The heat kills them.

def read you must have heat...good luck and whoop your boys ass for bringing them home (at least, teach him a valuable lesson and relate it to future "women" in his life :)

Heat will definitely kill them. If you do get a professional make sure they guarantee that they'll get rid of them or they'll come back for a second treatment.

Same thing you do if you find a spider. Burn the house down.

Nuke the room from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Everything that boy owns gets thrown into his room, including the clothes on his back and then the room is tape sealed shut, The clothes you use to tape seal the room also gets thrown into the room before the final tape around the door goes on. Any and all towels also gets thrown into his room, pillows, cushions, chairs, etc from the living/ family room should all go into his room. Then get your boy to a doctor for a 100% inspected of his body for bugs and or eggs. Then get the house tented and bombed.

^^^^What he said. Get a professional with a license, insurance, and guaranteed treatment until gone.

It won't be cheap but it will be worth it.

Its easy to treat yourself. You can buy everything online. Its the same exact chemical the pros use. First every bit of fabric, sheets ,clothing needs to go into the wash and wash at high heat.Remove all electrical cover plates and wall hangings. Then spray PT PHANTOM 2. If the whole house in infested you may need to heat treat the entire house. They have trained dogs that can find the suckers.

Get some bed protection covers for your mattress from your pest guy and cover them up.After they fumigation make them put out some indicates under the bed to make sure they don't come back.Check between your mattress and box spring to see if they are multipling.Hate to tell you this but they are probably in every room by now they are very good hitch hikers.Even in your living room couch.Get ready for a 600/800 bill from a good co.I personal would burn the mattress that was in his room and their baggage.Good luck

First off, preparation is key . You need to follow the instructions given to you by your pest control tech. The more stuff that you can throw out and replace, the better your success rate is. Do not be surprised if it takes more than one attempt to get rid of them. Cracks and crevices around the room also need to be treated. And be sure to have the technician inspect other areas of the house as well. These bugs are great travelers as you can already see. And bed bug dogs are not a trick and pony show. Be sure to spend the extra money to secure a good and experienced company. Once the bed bug boom took off years ago every slime and their cousin got into business.

Cost me 1400.00 in one of my rental homes for them to heat it. Guess what they came back but we had a six month guarantee so they heated it again. All I can say is what a pain in the ass, the heat will melt your blinds, everything has to come out of the house that could melt. The second time they came back they also treated everything with a spray and did the sockets in the house. On your part you have to put all of your box springs and mattress in zip up bags. They are coming back to do one more spot treatment but as I said what a royal PIA.

My parents live near Columbus Ohio one of the worst places in the nation for them. My mom had to deal with them at work (school district). Your whole house has it, cost is around 2k, get it done asap.

I had 2 co-workers go through this in the same year. One did the mitigation herself, the other hired a pro. It wasn't easy for either of them, but the stories about the "pro" had me concerned. He insisted on things that sounded like fear-mongering / margin padding to me.

The one who did it herself used heat and high-concentration alcohol spray.

Fl Fisherman 05-15-2018 06:42 AM

They have some very nasty bites .They actually num your skin before they start to feed on you.😎

54bullwinkle 05-15-2018 06:49 AM

my mother in law got them. We tried everything, heat finally did it
