I'd missed it when it originally aired on television and never got around to seeing it. Just last month I started reading every McMurtry book I could get my hands on ... including all four books in the Lonesome Dove series. If you decide to read them all like I did, I recommend figuring out the chronological order of the story line, as McMurtry wrote the four books out of chronological order.

I then watched the DVD of the miniseries. Classic. There's something about McMurtry's storytelling that takes hold and won't let you go.

Any of you Savannah guys on here know if OC Welch names his boats after the book/mini-series or is there another meaning to it? I've always wanted to ask him.

I guess I love this movie because my father was only 2 generations removed from this era. Before he went to war in WWII his occupation was horse and mule trader and trainer.
