What town/city in Fl.

Started the wheels rolling with the older folks in the family, trying to get them to make the move to Florida. They each own their own homes and have a fair amount of equity in them, enough so that they could afford a condo or townhouse and still have some play money.

What is important to them: Access to shopping, healthcare, restaurants, malls. The ocean isn't a big deal to them but if they could get there within 30 min drive it would be nice. 55+ community is a plus but not absolutely necessary. They have no idea what difference there is between the west and east coast so Boca or Venice seems exactly the same to them on paper.

A large city like Miami I think is out of the question, as Tampa would be too.

If you guys have any first or 2nd hand info on communities or small cities that fit this bill I'd appreciate the feedback so we can research them. If a community has shuttle bus services that is also a big plus, if a city/town has some mass transit that is also a plus. One of them does drive but that won't be forever.

I lived in S. Florida for 20 plus years and moved to the Tallahassee area and I've spent my fair share of time all over both coasts. We moved to Pensacola 3 plus years ago and love it here. Outstanding fishery, very little traffic by comparison and I dare say the rest of the requirements listed are very easily met. It's a hidden gem that not many even think of.

Go ahead and start the body work on an EZGo to make it look like a 64 Stang in candy apple red.

Haven't the "villages" been in the news for some not so good reason recently?

TSeck930 05-13-2018 12:39 PM

Yeah. Highest rate of STD's in the country believe it or not. Aside from that great for retirees but a little expensive. Also look at On Top of The World in Ocala.

Not if you donít participate in their extra curricular activities.

It has turned into a fantastic place to retire. They will never be bored. Shuttle services to tons of places. They have 3 different downtown squares now. All different themed. Even have their own hospital now. Live music every weekend on the square with alcohol sold curbside.

You guys at least check the area out.

I'll be sure to tell them, don't wear precious metals unless you want an invitation to the club house broom closet.

The Villages have everything there. They keep on building up there. They also run bus trips to Tampa Bay Downs horse track, casinos, Disney, etc.

Somewhat of a misnomer. Not really fake news but not necessarily true either.

There is a shooting club from the villages that shoots at a private range near Ocala. The members of the range call them "the Village Idiots", LOL

Not from Florida and never heard of the villages.

Just pulled up their website. They have a combined dog park & archery range?? Guess better practice trying to hit moving targets!

Thanks for the links. I wasn't sure why I had heard of them but this must have been it.
