Nothing like fresh food. Grow our own vegetables and use to have fresh eggs daily when we had chickens. Can’t be beat! Oh and let’s not forget all of the fresh fish we catch!!

Fiddleheads intrigue me!! Never had them and never even heard of or saw them until I worked a bit in Canada and walked thru a farmer's market.

What do they taste like? My chances of getting them in Florida are nill, so they will remain a bucket list food until I can get back up North.

No, around here they grow wild along the fence lines along the road sides.

In about 20 minutes I can collect enough 1/2" wide spears to feed a troop of people with a half dozen each....and I can do that every second day.
Actually I get so much I've started freezing them and I just finished my last vacuum packed bag a week ago.

If you boil, then fry the shit out of them they basically have no flavor. If cooked just past al dente they have a bit of a bitter tang to them, but combine that with fried in butter that tang is balanced out with sweetness.
Like if I'm going to have fiddleheads my protein is going to be wild turkey, venison, bear or even lamb. I like the slight edge of the fiddlehead along with the edge of wild game flavors.

The one thing with fiddleheads is, when you think you've picked enough, double or triple that. A solid handful when boiled/ fried is just enough to garnish a single hot dog. To feed a family of five as the vegetable you would need a good size pot full.

This year I'm going to try freezing some to see how they how out....they will be blanched and vacuum sealed.
