Default 6' Tsunami?!?!?!?!

Im sorry to hear that people died, but why are they calling a 6' wave a "tsunami"? Seems like an average wave to me...

No ordinary wave__it is an abrupt lift of the level of the sea__the leading edge is higher than the water and waves that precede it__and the water level behind it is higher too___If you were riding on one at sea, you might notice a little lift, but you probably would not___its height keeps building over distance__a wall of water comes slamming in with sea just as deep behind it to keep it going as far inland as water of that level can reach__ the same effect as the land suddenly dropping to a lower level__

Ya Capt. the length of a tsunami wave from crest to trough is often many miles, so you have to imagine that along the coast, the whole ocean suddenly gets 6 feet deeper and stays that way for 10-15 minutes before you reach the trough and the water recedes.

I was watching a documentary on the Big one a couple years ago. They mentioned a boat load of divers diving a few miles from one of the islands that basically got wiped out.
Anyway, the divers were in the water when the wave came by and were tossed and turned like crazy. When they got back in the boat, the people that were in the boat didn't even know the wave came by.
