Default My Buddy Pat & His Quest For The Perfect Boat!

PART I

So, my good buddy Pat had been in search of his "perfect hull" since the day I first met him close to 30 years ago. Being a hardcore fisherman, he has been through quite a few hulls over the years. Most notably a 24' Proline CC & a 25' Parker pilot house. Pat knew that he'd eventually want to step up to a larger boat. Something that would allow him more range and comfort than his older boats could afford him. More importantly, Pat wanted a legacy to hand down to his growing son, Patrick, who in his own right was becoming an accomplished fisherman & captain through years and years of tutelage.

Pat finally came to the realization that what he truly wanted was a downeast hull and nothing was going to get in his way until he found HIS boat! He found himself spending all his free time & energy online, at marinas & searching classifieds for the perfect hull. After hundreds of hours spent looking, he came upon an ad in a local paper (The LI Fisherman). The ad was for a 2003 29' H&H hull in Lubec, Maine. It certainly caught his eye! She was a BEAUTY! However, not exactly around the corner from us here in NYC. The 560 miles that stood between him and this beautiful boat seemed daunting to him. Feeling that he could find his dream boat closer to home, Pat continued his search.

Getting late...Part II coming soon....

It might be. It could also rival the two girls, tuna and a dog lost at sea for months on a sailboat too kind of story.
All I hope for is that Pat finds his boat and soon! I bet Pat finds his Downeast boat but next to it is a Bayliner speedboat and his heart becomes torn for another.

You said this friend of yours spent close to 30 years searching for his perfect boat, than this boat caught his eye! She was a BEAUTY! And now he won't drive 560 miles to check it out or better yet buy it. This guy must be a nut case!

No need for Pat to search, Kendall did all the research already, your friend Pat needs a 37 Freeman.

Sorry for the delay guys. Never should have started that thread so late.

Anyway, Pat & I were members here on THT a few years back when he was still in the midst of his search. However, after not visiting the site for quite some time, we were unable to log in with our old passwords. I renewed my membership yesterday. I'm sure he will as well in due time. We found many of the boats he looked at right here on this site. He also received tons of valuable information & opinions from the members here that really helped him in making his final decision. Thank you to all those who pitched in and helped us out because we were very new to the world of downeast boats....And the learning process continues.

The boat he found in Maine ultimately was too good to pass up and we made the trip to see it in October of 2016 (see pics). The boat was practically new. The previous owner had only put 20 or so hours on the motor and was only using the boat for casual day sailing. It was equipped with a John Deere 205HP engine. Pat & Patrick fell in love instantly. They decided it was what they were looking for and purchased the boat that day.

The boat was soon shipped down to New York and the hard work of "fine tuning" her to suit their needs would begin...
