I think that it is cool that we have black racers in our yard. I could handle one on my sniper rifle. If a black mamba took its place, say in Africa, that would scare the heck out of me!

My buddy was down there on training when the picture was taken. He had shown it to me, pretty cool.

Eglin has a huge amount of woods/beaches in their property. They let you hunt the area's they aren't testing or doing missions on, which is pretty cool.

If that ole boy was from the south.... wouldn't even make him blink, a copperhead might make him watch, a diamond back too, but If that "fellow" was from NYC.... he'd shit his pants. When it come to the "fight" city boys are just fine, but if they see a big bug or a snake... forget it.

Cool pic. I remember doing a river water crossing with our rucks wrapped in poncho's to form a float at Ft Bragg one summer and on the opposite bank where I was going to exit the water was the biggest copperhead I had even seen sunning itself. I just drifted easily and quietly down a few or 50 feet and exited there instead.

Hair raising? what city slicker wrote that article? Try doing night land nav training in the everglades during gator mating seasons.

You surely mean "country boy" and "city boy". Boy from Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, Birmingham... they be shittin' too. After training though, it's a no shit policy for all of them.

We have copperheads, and timber rattlers. Those i watch for they grow to 5 feet ,and hit you hip high if you step on them . They hold on ,and inject a lot of venom into a man. Bad

I hope that rifle wasn't loaded. Bad place to be standing to take a picture.

Black racers have some weird desire to creep up on people and scare the hell out of you! I have had several encounters where they just come right up on you. One time I was on my knees putting pipe in a ditch and one came up from behind me right between my legs! By the time I landed back on earth, he was gone. Probably in the bushes laughing his ass off I would guess!

That’s killer, good job by the shooter.

Of course as already posted, if any of these boys come slithering along it’s another story.

Out of the venomous snakes out here that coral snake would be the least of my worries. One fatality in the last 70 years.

As more and more natural habitat shrinks due to building and development, more and more sightings and human contact are inevitable.

As pointed out within Wiki, the above venomous coral snake is all to often confused w/ one of his non venomous cousins which look alike.
Only reason for attaching vid.

Found a coral snake under 1 of our trash cans a couple years ago.
Got my attention real quick when I seen him.

I’d be more concerned w/ the Pygmy rattlers, (self explainitory) Nastly little things.
