Another one is to concentrate on removing all of your thoughts and putting them into a box that you can open up again in the morning. This may work for some but I am not one of them that it works for.

I used to keep a pad and paper next to my bed so that when I had a good idea I would get up and write it down. I have stopped doing that because it would just keep me awake longer. Do any of you guys deal with your mind running overtime when you try to sleep? Does anyone have a technique that helps clear your mind until the morning?

I haven't been able to get to sleep tonight because I can't stop thinking about everything I need to do to get the boat ready to put in later in the week.
Do all three steps above and you will sleep like a dog and remember nothing.

I have tried a lot of stuff, finally it became bad enough that I had to go see a Dr about it. Ended up getting a drug called Belsomra and it has been the greatest thing ever. I take it an hour before I want to sleep and when I get into bed I am out within 20 minutes. No bad side effects for me. This drug doesnt work the same for everyone sadly, it also isnt cheap!

NO. I usually stay up till I start getting sleepy. have learned to stay away from anything that has caffeine in it. Even hot tea will keep me up a while longer. Soon as my head hits the pillow i'm usually out.
When home I usually have a drink or two before I go to bed. Don't think it changes any thing out here on the road I don't and works about the same way.

Yes. All the time. I'll think about crap that's near term...at work or at home...then think about all the maintenance I need to do on tbe house that I'm behind on...then think about stuff that's probably 20 years down the road. And then of course, boobies.

if I pay attention I can practice being mindful and staying in the present, but it's hard when you have a youngin, one on the way, managing a team, running a side business, thinking of how to retire early, where do we want to move to to be near water, how can we make that happen, when's my wife gonna get promoted so I can be a kept man and work as a Wal Mart greeter or ferry boat captain.

There's alot going on up there. Even when I sit down and deliberately try to let it all go, it works for 30 seconds and then a mile a minute again without me even realizing it. I've gotten better lately though...and (knock on wood)...she's at idle when I'm trying to sleep. 30 seconds and it's snoresburg.

Does my mind race when I go to bed? Only happens every few months, specifically March, June, September and December.

Logistics for a 300 person wedding for a multimillionaire in October, the " crown" in the living room needs to be pulled down and redone..should i paint it first then hang, fill nail holes touch up and caulk...those two handrail sections can be fixed cheap for that single mom of 3..but I pay "pig" $30/hr and he's really great using
fresh materials and not reusing stuff like the pickets...bit that's where I save to offer it cheap...what of there's a wreck between home and HHI tomorrow and I end up late to that huge kitchen job, but i have to be at the deck job by 730...crap gotta pickup the sliding door for that other job too...the seas look crappy for Snapper weekend coming up but I didn't look today...need to do that..

So yeah I'm awake...
