Default Costa del mar

So, I only see it fair to give credit where credit is due. Two weeks ago I sent in a 5 year old pair of glasses that were broken in half at bridge. Two seperate halves.
I didn't know what to expect or if they would do anything at all.
Well, upon checking the mailbox today, a new pair had arrived.
Total cost $49.

Well done! Thanks, Costa!

You got suckered...and the reason I dislike CDM.

I sent a pair back that was snapped in half..a design issue on their end and I only had to pay the $12 or so s/h fee. Others I sent back had some BS charge on them and ran me about $30 or more for those. Other people with the same issue got theirs back for just the small s/h fee.

How's it feel to know that you paid more than many others for same repair/replacement?

I dont feel suckered. 49$ and I got a new pair of glasses. If others got a better deal, good on them.
I was happy they didn't send them back and tell me to piss off.

How does it feel to be an ass?

Have had similar issues... always charged a not so small fee for any kind of repairs sent back to Costa..

Nice glasses, but the warranty isnít worth the paper itís written on.

An ass? An ass accepts the fact they were charged 3-4 times more than others for the same issue and says, "No problem." It's your money, so don't think it's any skin off my back. I've moved on for the reasons I've stated here and in several other CDM threads.

I just bought a pair from backcountry. Not sure how I didnít notice but find a chip in the glass where the arm attaches. Costa wantrd to charge me to Fix. Not sure How much. The made it seem like a lot. Kudos to backcountry for reimbursing me and taking them back sight unseen.

I was just sort of aggravated because they were on s Good sale and I think a discontinued pair.

Depending on lenses, could be fairly expensive, but much less than a new pair at retail. I've paid them to replace lenses on a few glasses that I broke. I get that...Last time I sent a few pair in due to rubber issues and arms straightening out. They stuck me good on a "discontinued" model and I had to pay a higher fee for their crappy workmanship...argued with the lady on the phone about it, but to no avail.

What a brilliant business model they have. Turning broken glasses into a profit center and leaving the customer feeling good about it.

You can often get the same thing at their partner store Steep and Cheap for less. Both are very good companies to buy from.

The reality is, I, not CdM, am responsible for breaking the glasses. This is not warranty, this was my fault.
So as a customer, why would I be unhappy paying $49 For a new pair? It beats the heck out of paying full price.
You guys sure do expect a lot from product manufacturer.

Do you after 5 years, 150k miles, and wrecking it, take your car back to the manufacturer and expect a full replacement? I bet you would jump at paying 25% to replace that car....that's what I just did with my glasses.

To each his own, but I dont think 49$ after years of hard usage is unreasonable.

user broken 5 year old glasses renewed for $49. sounds good to me.

if a pair of sunglasses makes it to 5 years, the manufacturer has discharged his obligations , and to put on the plate after is just icing.

The plastic between the bridge in many of their glasses is a weak point...their words, not mine. I broke mine and I only had to pay $12 or so. I guess they’ve figured out they can fleece harder these days.

I have a love hate relationship with Costa right now. I destroyed my prescription lenses a while back. 100% my fault so I wanted to order new lenses and have some peeling rubber on the frames fixed under warranty. Nope, prescription warranty only 1 year so I was SOL. Have no idea why the won't warranty the frames just because I have prescription lenses. It is the same frame.

Dude, give it a rest. I'm glad you live in a world where everyone else has to pay for your mistakes. I paid $49 for mine and I'm happy.

We get it you don't like CdM. Why are you so focused on the thought that I got fleeced?

If you have a bone to pick with CdM do it on someone else's thread.

Some of these guys on here are squabbling hens trying to one-up another to feel better about themselves, I don't get it.

I've been a Costa customer for 15 years or so, and was recently considering switching to RCI optics because I have been less than impressed with Costa over the years. Just felt like they were getting too big for their britches, and felt that the quality wasn't there anymore.

I had a pair crack right in the middle of the frame as I was putting them on. The lens fell out afterwards and broke. So I was left with a broken lens and broken frames. I expected to pay the $50 for frame replacement but I told them that I didn't think the lens damage was my fault, as it fell out as the frame cracked. Costa sent me a brand new pair for $12 and made me feel like a valued customer. Definitely enough to keep me around for a while more.

I agree...you broke them, and they still helped you out. Win win.

But I'm not surprised by the responses, people want everything for free. Look at what LL Bean had to do recently.

I was wondering if this was a problem with Costas. Ive had several pair break right in middle. First time they replaced at no charge. Last 2 times $60 for each. Have another pair in box right now to send back that are broken in the same place. Dont get me wrong, I love the glasses but Im not hard on them and they break in the same place every time.

Pay for my mistakes? How did you come to that conclusion? CDM told me it was an issue of theirs on the model I owned and some others.

Iím really happy for you that you donít mind paying more than others for the same issue. Seriously, Iím ecstatic!

Iíve moved on, but will continue to chime in on threads like this on an open forum.
