Default Uber

I use uber a few times a month, what a change from crummy cabs but I've noticed a change in the vehicles.
Maybe it was just the luck of the draw but I remember when the service 1st started we always got picked up in a nice, newer car, audi, 4 runners, explorers, maximas, etc....now they are all econoboxes or total junk.

Had an uber XL this weekend that I wasn't sure we would actually make it to the destination and the seats were all ripped up with the foam comming out.

Anyone else notice a huge difference in the quality of what they are allowing?

I was under the impression that your car had to pass a vehicle inspection prior to them accepting you as a driver.

Yes. I average a half dozen or dozen rides a month, and the quality has gone way downhill.

They have slacked way off on their QC.

Eh
The car has to be a 2001? Or 2000 or newer.
4 door sedan
Other than that it doesn’t matter.

I drove 2x with Uber with my BMW 535. Made the same amount as he guy in the Kia next to me.
I don’t drive anymore

I think originally, Uber was people looking to make a few extra dollars. My coworker is an Uber driver just to meet people around town. One of my groomsmen carpools to work with his wife, but she gets off 1.5hrs after he does, so he ubers 45-60min a day. Those types of people are going to be the nicer cars.

Now, Uber is a full time job for some people. An economy car is by far the best way to Uber if you're trying to go at it full time.

I haven'y had a bad condition vehicle, but I've certainly noticed a rise in economy cars.

Uber hurt the cabbies too bad. Why fight Uber when you can just join em. Bunch of cabbies make the switch. Now all you get with Uber a sketch ball cab driver, in a chitty "personal" car.

Yep. The only thing nice about Uber is I don't have to process a payment in the back seat.

I use Uber black now after a few trips in shit boxes. Most of my trips are close and $17 vs $10 bucks isn’t going to kill me.

Yep, even using XL tends to produce nicer SUV's. At 6' 250 god didn't intend for me to ride in a Kia Forte.

I have only used Uber when I have been drinking and I really don't care if they get me to my destination.

I hear a lot of Uber drivers are switching to Lyft for better pay terms. Maybe that's where the good cars are going?

Don't most drivers use both and switch depending on which app is surge? I know as a rider that's what I do.

Not sure that I read this right. hahah.

You can always give the driver a negative review. Eventually they get tossed.

I had not used Uber for about a year until a few days ago. I thought the same as the OP, I was surprised by the poor condition of the vehicle. The driver did a good job so no biggie....however the rates sure seem to have gone up. I need to log into my account to see if that's the case.

Depends on the market. Uber fluctuates based on demand. Here's a site that tracks historical pricing.

I couldn't agree more, there has been a big change over the last year. They must have increased the requirements for the age of the car too. I ride Uber a lot and its gone downhill. Guy picked me up the other night and refused to turn the A/C on..... not the end of the world but c'mon..

Yes. And me too. To your earlier point, the full time drivers are awful. The coupl ehours here and there driver is always better and almost always has nicer cars.

Over New Years in ATL I took about 15 under rides. Every car except 1 was a dirty piece of shit. Little crap cars , dirty mini vans.

One lady was playing a rap mix tape that just kept say "pu$$y pu$$y pu$$y, vagina vagina vagina" over a beat. It was actually pretty funny.

Uber sets minimum standards for the vehicles their drivers use.

But beyond that, it's up to the rider to give the driver a less than stellar review if the car isn't up to snuff. I'm not sure the required score, but driver's have to maintain a good rating to keep driving.

Based on riding in Uber's and Lyft's with different friends, most people only drop a review when they are happy because the review is requested after you tip.

Bad ride = no tip = no review = crappy cars

I used Uber to get to the airport in Pittsburgh last week, it was a pretty long ride at about an hour total, and it cost about $55 with a $5 tip.

The car was really a POS older little Kia econobox...but the driver was cool.

Definitely the most POS Uber car I have been in to date.
