Default Space X Boosters land

This is about the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Elon is a genius. Period.

@ Kennedy space center. Sorry if it has already been posted.

Not perfect but amazingly impressive. Given the sometimes overwhelming stupidity that one encounters day-to-day, it is nice to know that intelligent life still exists

The side boosters landed, touching down at LZ-1 and LZ-2 at Kennedy Air Force Station, the designated landing pads SpaceX uses to recover its reusable rockets. But the core, middle booster, which attempted to land aboard “Of Course I Still Love You,” a drone barge that SpaceX uses as a mobile, ocean-borne landing pad stationed in the Atlantic for its flights departing from Florida, wasn’t recovered.

That core booster approached the platform as planned, but it unfortunately hit the water going 300 MPH and was lost, because some of its return engines failed to light. Video feeds of the attempted landing cut out upon approach, and in the live stream SpaceX provided of the launch, you could hear someone say “We’ve lost the core” but it wasn’t clear whether that indicated just the feed, or the booster itself.

Amazing. It's like the stuff from the science fiction movies I remember as a kid, is finally here.

Even Musk, engineer of the circus show, was surprised that his audacious stunt worked. “Apparently, there is a car in orbit around Earth,” he tweeted. His plan is for the $100,000 Tesla Roadster – with the message “Don’t panic!” stamped on the dashboard and David Bowie playing on the speakers – to cruise through high-energy radiation belts that circuit Earth towards deep space.

See pics. There was a space suited mannequin in the Tesla and David Bowie's "Ground Control to Major Dan" was playing.

Here is another perspective on the launch from the Smarter Every Day youtube channel. Listen to launch and the the triple sonic booms from the landing boosters.

Elon Musk is a lot like Thomas Edison. Sell it and let your engineers do the work.

Fake. Just like the moon landings.

For decades they struggled to get them OFF the launch pads. Now, they come back down by themselves. Reliably. Pretty amazing.

Bill you might like this shot I took just before landing from an office building roof on A1A in Cape Canaveral looking NE towards the port. If you look close you can see the landing legs extending on the booster on the left.
