I believe the site is just temporarily overwhelmed with hits. Even the main page is slow.

Wonder how long before the go-fund-me page pops up.

They had no sailing experience. His father helped them sail along the Gulf Coast, from Alabama to Panama City. That’s how the couple learned how to sail.

and they vote--------

“So they started saving their money. He Ubered. They spent two years planning, and then finally did it. They sold everything they owned, even his sport-utility vehicle. In April they bought a 1969 Columbia sailboat in Alabama for $5,000, then spent that much fixing the 49-year-old boat.”

WOW!! The SUV must have SUCKED big time! That sounds like a lot of effort for 5k!!

Their SUV might have sucked big time, but not half as much as you putting them down for dreaming of a better life for themselves!
To dream has no relevence to a person's wealth or lack there of... personally I feel sorry for the folks.

If they had no money to begin with, how were they planning on living even if the boat hadn't sank?

If they only have $90 between the two of them, what were they going to do next week?

My phone is loading slowly so I guess I missed where they were doing anything other than honest work and selling possessions to make this dream a reality for them.

You guys sound like a bunch of asshats ridiculing them for their bad fortune

well there is the part where they were so clueless as to what they were doing that they sank only a few miles into the journey and left a bunch of flotsam and jetsam out there in the ocean to trash it out or for someone else to pay the cost of cleaning up

they had ZERO insurance for anything like that AND they had ZERO insurance for what was suppose to be their HOME and THEIR LIVES POSSESSIONS......and they apparently had NINETY DOLLARS to their name to sail to foreign countries that have fees to dock, fees to enter (and sometimes exit) the country, they had ZERO money for things like sail repair, electronics repair, fuel, engine repair, basic boat maintenance or anything like that

they seem to have no clue that emergencies happen, that it cost money to live, that it cost money to sail around doing nothing and then add in the fact that they were planning to sail to places that have most likely had the shit knocked out of them from the last round of hurricanes.......so the oceans and bays and ports will be all filled with crap that cause issues for boats and the locals are not exactly going to be wanting to give freebies and discounts and "good good love love" to idiot Americans that sold their few meager possession to risk their life doing something they know NOTHING about and that they have ZERO means to fund

and again they did not even get out of the damn BAY for the first night of the trip and about died........but yea lets not call these people out as being idiots because "they have a dream"

Save it..... a couple of kids who did nothing but try to make a dream a reality through honest hard work gets the typical know it all response from THT brain trust.

If we all could have been as knowledable and conscientious when we were younger as you apparently were.

I want to start a Go Fund Me to get him a vasectomy and a tubal ligation for her. Think of it as a little bit of insurance for the rest of the world.

That does suck. Glad they are safe, But, sure seems like they were ill-prepared, naive, or just ignorant of the realities of their choices. I don’t see them being ridiculed for the bad fortune or dreams, but certainly for their bad planning and execution. Nonetheless, it’s a crappy lesson for them.

There is a bright side:

Meh...I commend them for following their dreams, and I hope they do eventually make it a reality.

But their ignorance, naivety, and downright stupidity has put others needlessly in danger, and will ultimately cost taxpayers money.
