Spent my first 18 years there. I'd stay away from most of the touristy places (Hanauma Bay etc). Id def try hiking a few trails with cascading waterfalls, Queen's Bath, Diamond Head offers breathtaking views, the fresh prawn stands, Turtle Bay on the North shore a great place to stay and snorkel during the calm summer months. Any questions feel free to msg me.

I was there a couple of months ago. Stayed with my brother who lives there. I really liked lulumahu falls. It's a great hike. If you go, try and go during the week when it's not busy. Some folks think it's an easy hike, but there are some challenges (bring hiking shoes). We also went to the Waimanalo area. My favorite beach. It's mostly residential, but I believe there are some parks/public access. There's also some farms on that side of the island.

Agreed, Pearl Harbor/Arizona a must, and the Punch Bowl. Waikiki and Diamond Head also. Then rent a car and drive around the island. After that no need to see it again, the other islands are more relaxing.

I spent 3-4 days there, was my least favorite part of the trip.
Spent a week between big island and kauai and would take either one over oahu.
Waikiki is way too crowded for me, I prefer more remote places generally.
We flew in/out of HNL that's why we stayed there a few days before/after island hopping,

As mentioned try to get over to Maui and Kauai. It's a long way to fly to just see Oahu.
The inter island flights are relatively cheap.
We really enjoyed renting a Jeep and driving the whole way around Maui one day (even past the point where no rental cars are allowed). The backside where the lava flow goes to the sea is incredible! You go through a rain forest in Hana to the ''moonscape'' of the back of island then to the pine forest on the west (?) side. Haleakala Volcano is amazing as well.
Have fun

You will love it!
Go to Laniki Beach and take a paddle board or kayak (you can rent them right there) to the Mokulua Islands (bring lunch). Find the "hidden beach" south of Laniki, If I told you exactly where someone might kill me (that is the actual name). If you find it you will understand why the locals call it hidden beach. You will be able to swim with sea turtles and all kinds of other wildlife there. As others mentioned there is also great surfing on the north shore.
Pear harbor isn't on the north side but you should still go if you can, it the very least to simply pay respect to those who lost their lives for our country.

Maybe send the OP a "PM" on the exact location. No harm there!

Apparently the hidden beach isn't such a secret & I guess it's actually called "Halona Beach Cove" . It was well worth the visit. There are plenty of online reviews / photos.

The first time I went to Maui, went over for a day to see Pearl Harbor and spend the day checking out Waikiki and Honolulu. Couldn't wait to get back to Maui. Outside of Pearl Harbor, I've lost nothing on Oahu.

We did Hawaii in the late '90s. Flew into and out of Honolulu. Spent some time there, but went to the big island and Maui. I personally loved the big island overall. Maui was nice too, but didn't like as much. Honolulu is like a city in most respects. Anyhow, it is really cool to visit and interesting. Things can be expensive, so you have to be careful if you are on a budget.
