Default After almost 30 years... I'm leaving FedEx... (I was with RPS back in the day.)

Things have gotten so out of hand with FedEx and UPS and their DIM weight, and negotiating DIM factors, etc... that I'm ready to leave FedEx. I had a GREAT run with them, but the time has come to try something else.

UPS is offering a better deal. Here are issues that concern me a tad.

1) UPS is horrific with package handling (think: Union workers who beat the snot out of parcels)

2) No more Saturday delivery for "Home" packages.

Has anyone else left FedEx an for UPS? Reasons? How did it work out?

For what it's worth my wife buys and sells expensive dolls, ships with UPS or USPS and never has had a problem. She is extra careful about packaging and charges shipping which those she deals with do too. There have been a few times the shipping was prohibitive and the deals were lost/canceled but overall things go well for her limited shipping needs.

I've never met an employee from either that wasn't considering suicide. Though, after 30 years a career change might be out of the question.

Dropped UPS as our primary carrier a several years ago. They didn't miss a $250K yearly account. Screw 'em.

I’ll say 2017 was the worst year we’ve had with UPS. We had more lost packages and guaranteed deliveries that weren’t delivered on time in 2017 then the previous ten years combined. And a lot of my customers had very similar experiences last year. UPS uses dimensional weight also. Their prices are getting out of hand. They have around a 5% increase every year. USPS offers a pickup services that I heard is pretty good. I know the rates are better.

UPS has become the bigger nightmare. They use to set the bar - now they are a smaller version of USPS. They grew to big to fast and service has suffered. FedEx is cheaper in almost every case I've seen - show them what UPS is offering and I'm sure they'll beat it.

Amazon is getting into the shipping business, I am willing to bet that this will put a huge dent in the "windfall" UPS and FEDEX have experienced from Amazon's explosive growth.

Old Pete, you're 30 years in and looking to go to work somewhere else??
Home life that tough

Sorry it wasn't clear. We are leaving them as our shipper -- I don't work for them. LOL.

Said this a thousand times 95% of our shipments are with Fed-Ex; 95% of our problem are with other carriers. I will admit that freight cost isn't our first concern, because of the value of the items we ship, but Fed-Ex gives us a substantial discount.

And not sure why dimensional weight is all of a sudden a problem. All of the carriers have used this for decades; we have to enter this information into our shipping software to generate the labels. They do re-measure and re-weigh packages if they think the shipper is plugging in incorrect numbers.

Unless the item is in a custom shipping container we pack every item in a new double wall cardboard box and depending on size, weight, shape and value it either gets 100% new bubble wrap or is foamed in place. Nothing gets re-used and no loose packing materials like peanuts.

You seem to go through this every year. You are going to run out of shipping companies!

FedEx may be okay for home deliveries but for my business they suck.

We close at 4 and they consistently pass around 515-530
If they miss us on friday, we are closed Saturday so we typically don’t see the package until Tuesday (shippers fault for sending via home delivery, but screws me over none the less)

I’ve scheduled pickups from fedex online and they never make it on time. I always have to end up bringing the package to fedex Center 2-3 days later, unless we get a delivery from them - then they will pick up.

Ups drops off daily at 11-1130 and picks up daily at 330. As a business Ups is the only way to go for us.

Gotta good buddy who is a 30+ year UPS manager, retired. UPS is union because it started as a trucking company. Fedex is open shop because it formed as an airline. UPS managers used to hand carry stuff to customers. UPS concentrated on safety and efficiency...even their delivery trucks are custom designed.

Sorry for the misread

Still 30 years at your work is a lot of time spent away from the boat
