Default need your travel ideas

We would like to take a quick trip after the new year before our son heads back to school. So we are thinking about a quick 3-4 day trip somewhere. Our ideas were to either Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas or New York. My wife and I have have been to all several times and we do the Fort Lauderdale boat show every few years with the son so he has been there with us. He just turned 21 so this puts a new dynamic with what we can do.

I think wife and son have ruled out Fort Lauderadale so we are down to Vegas or NY. Wife wants to do New York and son doesn't care. We have only been to NY in the spring or summer so what are your suggestions of things to do this time of year in New York? Vegas better?

We would catch a show most likely but still need other ideas. I want to make it fun for my son as well as us.

need to make reservations today so gotta decide. Appreciate any input.

Vegas is a toilet. Why would you want to bring your family there?

NYC.

If you are flying out of Charlotte, American flies all over the Caribbean.

And after visiting almost every obscure island in the region, you can fly non-stop to my favorite island, St. Lucia. The all inclusive resorts there are among some of the world's best, and the island is incredibly beautiful.

My other favorite non-stop flight would be Munich on Luftansa. Nights in a German beer hall are hard to beat for a 21 year old.

I'm sitting 10 miles south of Vegas right now. Mom and dad retired here. Vegas is comical. Every guy thinks he is a MMA fighter and every gal thinks she's a supermodel Kardashian. Morality is sad. No pools are open right now. There are plenty of great shows though.

I'd rather be somewhere warm.

A couple ideas if you go to NYC, Highline, see the City from the East River on one of the many short zippy city Ferries and go walk thru China town.

Ruling out lauderdale is hysterically foolish on your son's part.

NY sucks this time of year given your family's age. Gridlock and nothing else.

Lauderdale has nearly everything your son wants to get into (Scarlets) at a lower credit card debt than vegas.

All honesty, Lauderdale and Hollywood/dania have it all. Great food and entertainment.

Vegas or NYC....pick another spot, or stay home.

OP, of your three choices, I would not choose any of them. I live in South Florida, so that's out.

I was in LV for business in August. It looks like we will return there every August. I am already dreading it. I am NOT a LV person. Now, there are a TON of things I wanna do just outside LV...

NYC is the only one of the 3 that I want to do, but NOT in the winter. Are you nutso? It's cold up there. Cold hurts.

Which brings me back to Surfjeepzx's suggestion: Skiing. I don't know about skiing in North Carolina, but definitely jump out west! The ski reports I'm getting say the traditional big resorts don't have much natural snow so you might wanna go all the way west-- Oregon or Kalifornika. If you don't mind a smaller mountain, Grand Targhee in Alta, WY has AMAZING snow already this season. Think of it as the backside to Jackson Hole only with 200 inches more of powder per year.

Not an accomplished skier? GT's ski school is family oriented. Take a group class with other people--they really are fun!

Your trip would probably be: Fly to SLC, to Jackson, WY, rent something with 4WD and head over the pass.

I suggest NOT staying in Grand Targhee's hotels as the reviews say they are all past their prime. What's left? VRBO in Alta, WY or the Driggs/Tetonia area of Idaho. Grand Targhee is technically in WY, but think of it as part of eastern ID.

I would agree to go west for skiing, Utah is perfect right now. Friend just returned and said snow was perfect. I think he went to Deer Valley or Brighton, can't remember. Snow expected this week in the Beech Mtn area so that was just an option since you're already there. Not skiers? As suggested take a family lesson and have a blast actually doing something physical rather than eating drinking and sitting on your asses. Just saying, the beauty of nature wont be found anywhere you're considering visiting. You can rent everything you'll need for skiing except your underwear. No excuses

Might be a good idea most times, but after tomorrow, the next 2 weeks won't be above 31 degrees on any day for the high temps (most in the mid to high 20's), and 10-17 for the lows, and beyond 2 weeks the long range forecast doesn't show any days above 40. That is too damn cold to be walking around NYC, which is a damp, biting type cold. Those of us who work there try to avoid walking more than a handful of blocks when the temps are below 30 degrees.

Weather forecasters are known for accuracy?
