I was out of commission for several months with a bad hip. The pounds poured on quickly.

When I was 15 and worked in a Standard Oil gas station in '75, the only snacks a customer could buy were in a coin operated machine. Now every gas station is a convenience store and almost every fast food restaurant has a drive thru window. That's part of the reason that America has a weight problem. That being said, I would like to loose about 20 lbs. Good luck.

I've lost 15 pounds in the last 8 weeks or so. Still fat. Counting calories is about the only thing that works for me. Hoping to lose about 10 per 4-6 month period with a weekly calorie goal.

Learn to eat properly, that is 80% of maintaining a healthy weight. Other 20 is doing something active.

Yep.

Stop eating garbage (bread, cheese, pasta, crackers/chips, junk food, fried foods, fast food) and start eating actual food (vegetables, fruits, and meats).

Stop drinking IPA, etc. microbrew beers, mixed liquor drinks. Drink light, low calorie beers or straight spirits neat or on rocks, and only have 4 or less.

Stop eating indulgent desserts after dinner if you go out to eat. Buy some Hershey kisses and eat a couple of those after dinner.

Exercise to the point that you sweat at least 4X per week. Cardio (stairclimber, rowing, etc. If you don't have a gym, work in the yard, clean your boat or car, etc. Just move your a$$ and get off the couch.)

The main thing is, make changes, even if they are small. Diets are pointless if you revert back to what you did before.

That's your issue right there. Complaining about drinking water. Other than a coffee here and there and a beer or two a few times a week you should be drinking water. Leave the soda and other garbage alone! You don't need that daily.

I'm just passing on what my doctor says. So far, I've gotten away with eating and drinking as I please but know I'm not getting any younger and moving around a lot less.

Cut out the sugar. No pasta, bread, or sweets. The lbs will roll off and you'll feel a hell of a lot better.

I googled eat to "lose," and all I got was vague information and a push to buy a book. Any cliff notes on what's in it ?

cant fatten thoroughbreds, i weight 70 - 73 kg , 73 is after a good feed so weight is no issue for me ,

with that said :

i speak blatantly to fat overweight people , their excess weight is for the most part their own doing.

get up off that fat ass and do something ,anything is better than sitting on that fat ass after a full meal
it does not matter if you exercise , its how you exercise , this may seem a little blunt but thats what its meant to be ,

if fat overweight people spend as much time moving as what they do sitting and eating they would slowly but surely loose weight,

losing weight should also be healthy, instead of eating 3 bread rolls chocked solid with fillings , eat only 1 with the same fillings but less , the fillings dont even have to be healthy as long as there is not excess,

some people are big boned , those that are will never be 80kg , so why bust your ass trying too be ,
you may get there but keeping there will make you unhealthy and weak ""bodies are bodies' , trying to get a body that is trim taut and terrific when your body's metabolism is just not cut out to be that way will make you sick and possibly cause serious heart problems ,

its real simple ; just eat moderately of what ever you like , keep moving and exercise to suit your body
if you feel a need to do the gym thing 'by all means do so , BUT dont over do it

keeping in shape means just that , 'your shape'; , not mine , or anyone else's ,

enjoy keeping in shape ,you will feel better about yourself as time goes on,

Not sure what you meant by "4 or less", but I would only agree if you meant "per month" -- and then only at most. Better would be to drop it out almost entirely.

Alcohol is a metabolic disruptor, among other things, and it continues to disrupt for days after consumption. Many people would be surprised to learn how much easier it is to lose weight when alcohol is removed from the equation entirely or nearly so.

Keep alcohol consumption to a minimum, and you can do a lot wrong in the rest of your diet and still lose weight. Conversely, you can do a lot right in your diet but negate it all by daily alcohol consumption.
