Default What's the best gift you didn't know you wanted

Ok, I am having a hard time coming up with things to tell my wife and kids that I want for christmas so I thought I would start this thread. What is the gift that you received, that you didn't ask for, that you use way more than you thought or was way cooler than expected? I know I am going to get some crazy answers like "hookers and blow" or the "squatty potty" but maybe some good ones will come up as well.

Automatic hose reel. I don't know how I every lived without it and thought it was going to be a waste of money.

Tell the wife to make reservations at a nice hotel for an evening/weekend. It will end up costing you money, but you will get what you want, and go down as husband of the year.

Green Egg.
Always thought they were neat but would never ask for one or even buy one.
I use it 2-3 times a week and cook about 60% of our daily meals on it.

I have never received an unexpected gift I liked. Closest was an iPad that the kid now plays with and I never use. I used it a couple of times to play video golf. I know I am super picky so I tell anyone who wants to get me something to just get the daughter a gift. If they are insistent I say booze is always the right color and fit. I get lots of booze. Some I even end up drinking. I do appreciate the thought, but it ends up being a waste of money which annoys me.

I usually don't like anything so like to get cooking stuff like sauces and such. However the best was a Weber Smokey Smoker. I still love that thing. The worst was the Ice machine. Don't get me wrong I wanted one but my wife got me dinosaur that only held about 30 lbs. I think she picked it up for a couple hundred off Craig's list or something. I spent forever plumbing the garage and even longer trying to get that thing to work. I ended up having to pay someone a few hundred bucks to fix it. I really want some binoculars this year and the wife will probably get me some broken ones that need a little work that she finds a a thrift store or something. Just kidding, love her and don't really care what she gets me.

One year, my wife bought me a floor jack and jack stands. I thought it was such a waste and was going to return them. I use them all the time - for the boat, the cars, the kids cars, etc.

I'll second this. Very handy machine and I use it at least twice a week.

Good one. I received one as a give and am in agreement with you - I sometimes look for an excuse to use the darn thing!

If you are looking for a fantastic and yet inexpensive smoker, take a look at the Pit Barrel Cooker....probably the best $300 I've spent (it was a Christmas gift to myself)

There are great stocking suffers to go along with it:

A really good Filet Knife. She went to a Cutlery shop and told the person there that I fish a lot and need a filet knife. They sold her a Wusthof filet knife that she paid well over $100 for. I have been using it for 8 years now and filet 100's of fish each year. This knife holds an edge like no other knife I have seen. All I use is the sharpening device that comes with it. Best gift she has ever gotten me.

I'll agree with this as well. My wife (girlfriend at the time) bought me one and it changed the way I froze deer, fish, poultry, beef....you name it. I have since worn that one out and bought another, but it was a great gift.
